Bicycle Mechanics - flat repair

While riding this evening, I was traveling around 20mph and hit a pothole hard enough to pop and flatten both tires, send my water bottle flying and rotate my handlebars down about 30 degrees. No other damage to the frame/fork or myself.

Can I simply replace the tubes, or will the tires themselves also be damaged? If so, then what should I look for to evaluate whether I need to replace the tires?

it really depends if it was a blow out. if so you will need new tubes. but thats just a couple bucks.

if the hole is bigger than maybe half the size of a dime it's not really going to work real well.

Typically tires are pretty resilient to this sort of incident.

Do please examine your:

Rims, for bent-over walls, separating welds, other malfeasance

Fork, for a bend backwards from the impact

Seriously, closely look at your fork for a bend. If all is good, replace tubes and report that pothole! :)

Thanks for the replies. I replaced both tubes. The rear one holds air, while the front one loses all air in about 10 minutes after I inflate it to 115 psi. What should I look for on/inside the tire?

Spin the wheels slowly looking closely for out-of-round rims.
See where on the tube the air is leaking out. Put a little air in the tube and hold it under water.

You may have pinched the tube on reinstall. Try to install your tires/tubes without using tools.
