I decided the hell with it, and rode the bike to work today. I'm going to have a nice dinner here in Bellevue and let things cool off a few degrees before heading home tonite. The ride in this morning was quite nice, although I saw about half as many bikes as usual.
Anyone else?

Considering the fact that it was still 90 deg at my house at 7:30 pm last night (high of 97 deg.) for the day I will forgo riding till it cools down a bit. I don't mind riding in the heat but above 90 is a bit too much for me

It's a combination of triple digit highs for my ride home, and only getting 3 hours of sleep last night which is keeping me off the commute today. Silly dog kept trying to push me out of the way so she could hog the fan on my side of the bed! Of course, she never tried once to push my fiancee away from her fan. Just me. Must be some girl-pact they've got. :p
I'm taking the fixie out for some laps around the block when I get home. Only 20' of elevation gain in 2 miles... That sounds about right for 100+ degrees.

Did the short version of my commute today (3 mi. to bus), but not due to heat... I crosstrain and tonight's for running. Yesterday's ride home (24 miles) worked out OK. Stayed at the office till 8, soaked myself down twice at local parks, and throttled back on the hills at Eastgate and Sammamish. As I said in another thread, wet = good!. Learned that lesson the hard way on Monday with incipient heat exhaustion but got it under control and made it home.

Sort of. I had to take the bus from Seattle to Olympia last night, two buses required, neither had functional air conditioning. Bike to and from bus stops, 5 miles tops. It was stop and go on I5 from Lakewood south. I was on the bus when Olympia hit 101F. Getting off the bus and biking was a relief.
Likewise, on the return this AM, bike to and from bus stops, but this time both buses had functional air conditioning. I'll bike the usual 7 mile commute after work, including a very long hill at the end. It will be hot, but, it won't be anything like sitting in non-air-conditioned buses for 2 hours.
No. Portland is supposed to hit 107 today. Yesterday's official high of 106 actually was more like 110-112 on the street. Seriously. I'm driving this week, thank you.
I rode in today, 90 degrees in the sun at 9:30 this morning. On the way home, I'm using MAX to cut my ride down to a few miles. Last night I managed to cobble together a couple of short rides, stopping by the pharmacy on my way to a restaurant where I had dinner with co-workers before riding the last seven miles home at about 9 PM, when it was still about 88.

Yup, 15 miles. Rode yesterday too. My ride home was 95+ degrees, I was pretty much soaked with sweat, but all was good. Not too worried about the ride home this afternoon.

I rode from Newcastle to Redmond - 16 miles. Even after a very cold shower, it took the better part of 30 minutes for the sweat to subside. Good thing I brought an extra jersey. The one from this morning probably won't be dry by 5:00 PM. I kept thinking - this mornings temperature would be great for this afternoon. Talk about wishful thinking! The ride home tonight is gonna be a b*tch.
Oh well, I think a glass or two of sangria and a dip in Lake Washington will be in order.
Keep cool, everyone!

The last couple of days were enough - I shouldn't need to pop a NUUN tablet for my daily commute... ;-)
I may ride tomorrow, but couldn't bring myself to do it again today...

I did...But it's only 6 blocks!
Not me, though it was mostly due to air quality concerns. I grew up in a hot place (Redding, CA) so the heat is annoying but tolerable. Dirty air just makes me feel sick the rest of the evening after the ride home.

Well, it's happened. Officially 102 at SeaTac airport, beating the all time high temperature there (and lots of other places!) handily by 2 deg. Keep cool, everyone

104 in Sumner at the king5 school net site. One of the sensors for my wireless weather station which fastened under the picnic table in the back yard with nearly full sun exposure read 114 deg F but the one on the front porch only read 104 and its dropped back to 99 deg. but thats still cray\zy hot for here. Tomorrow we go into a slow downward trend and by next weekend its supposed to be back to the mid to upper 70's now that's my kind of weather

I did 34.5 miles to work this am, but left at 3:30 am and it was only 70. Don't have to go home til tomorrow AM.

I rode into work this morning around 9:30am. It was warm, but not too bad.
It looks like the ride home is going to be rough. It's still 103F in Redmond and Woodinville.
This weather is brutal. I was sweating while sitting outside work on my break. How embarrassing, haha. I can't even imagine riding to/from work in this heat! Been spending a lot of time looking into fixed gear conversions in front of a fan.

I used to live in Texas. Used to ride many, many miles in this kind of weather. I hate it.

I grew up in Fort Worth, so yes, I hate it too.
BTW -- The ride home was not too bad. I left about 7:30, late enough that I mostly avoided direct sunlight. It was hot, but not broiling.

I rode yesterday but I overslept today and had to drive in. My commute is pretty short though...5 miles from Kenmore to Bothell.

no real problems here.
just take it easy and wear loose fitting upper, NOT a jersey. wet bandana around neck, wet cycling cap if necessary.
its interesting about the air quality issues, i was messing around yesterday, riding around greenlake and woodland park, cut across 99 on one of the zoo's bridges, and the smog was hanging thick in the air.
i wonder if higher temperatures contribute more to air pollution, as in more partially burned hydrocarbons and pollutants stays suspended longer or other nefarious, heat/smog related complications?
14 miles in at 6AM, 7 miles home at 6:30 PM. Really wasn't too bad. Brought two water bottles instead of the usual one. I probably thrashed a bit harder than normal on the way home to get out of the heat as quickly as possible.

It's mostly lack of wind. Our usual N/NW winds are almost non-existent.
After yesterday's ride home after work, I'm never complaining about the summer winds.

Today they say it will be in the upper 90s. Thankfully my work commute is very short -- 2.36 miles each way. Only the direction I ride into sucks: straight east & right into the sun with no shade.

I'll be riding every day until I fix my stupid Jeep. Apparently it didn't like the 108 degree temperature at the top of Redmond Ridge, and decided to overheat and die when I got to my apartment lot. :(

I just can't afford to drive anymore this week. Had to ride today. It was nice out when I left home this am - 71 and nice. A lot cooler than in my apartment. It was still almost 80 in there when I left.
I ride from downtown to Greenwood. Gonna stop at Greenlake and relax on my way home.

I love riding and the cold rains/winds in the winter are much worse IMHO. I love the mornings - no chill whatsoever and I got to ride through a sprinkler this moring. Most excellent! Yesterday at 102 degrees I did opt to ride part way home via the Water Taxi because the sun was just horridly hot and facing two hills in that scorching light was not appealing. Still had a couple hills to tackle but they were mostly in shade so it wasn't too bad. Just going slower than normal and enjoying it. Sunscreen, water, and time makes for a pretty good ride.

I've ridden my regular commute every day this week (Renton <-> Redmond). I kept an eye on the time/temp boards I went past. The hottest was 105 at the car dealer in Renton (corner of Grady & Lind). This morning was the first time I've seen it below 70 in at least 3 or 4 days.
Lots of liquids and didn't push it. It's not about getting there fast; it's about getting there. Yesterday when I got in I grabbed a bunch of salt from the cafeteria and fixed myself a cool salt-water drink, though.

this weather is flipping nice compared to the december evening commutes and this is something to keep in perspective..

It's all a matter of perspective. I'll gladly trade a December evening commute for the hellishly hot last few days.
Cold/wet don't particularly bother me. Temps above 90 are difficult for me to cope with.

I rode today. It was delightful at 4:30 am till my headlight crapped out but only for a mile then it came back on and stayed on the rest of the ride in. Weird Huh?
I commuted to work as always all this week by bike. Wednesday at 107 was hot but for me wasn’t all that bad. I just made sure I drank some water every two to three miles. At the eight mile mark the water was very warm though. And yes, I did start with the water frozen in the bottle. No worries, I’m home in a cool shower at ten miles. If my commute were longer I would defiantly invest in a Camelback.

I rode July 29th thru today. I thought about it long and hard first though. Going home on the 29th at 3:00 pm I had 1.5 quarts of NUUN and water for nine miles; all gone by the time I got home and felt fine, checked my condition every so often to be on the safe side.
People thought I was nuts, so what's new?
I enjoyed the rides.
