Mountain Biking - Transition vs. Yeti vs. Corsair vs. Scott vs. Felt?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Choices abound. This year's prototypes will be next year's reality. The contenders:
Transition TR450 (http://www.transitionbikes.com/TR450.cfm)
Yeti 303R (http://www.yeticycles.com/#/ourrides/303R_DH/ANO._BLACK/)
Corsair Crown (http://www.corsairbikes.com/fly.aspx?layout=bike&taxid=58)
Scott Gambler DH (http://scottusa.com/us_en/product/1659/11803/gambler_dh_10)
. . . and a possible:
Felt DH prototype - - is in the works, rumored to be similar in design to the Compulsion (http://www.feltracing.com/09-catalog/suspension-mountain/compulsion-series/09-compulsion-1-frame.aspx) sporting an Equilink suspension with 8" of travel.

The yeti and corsair look pretty badass.
....
...
I know absolutely nothing about downhill bikes... or really any dual suspension.
What do you look at when looking at down hill bikes and stuff?

Cross bike gearing rawks for DH. Suspension is overrated, rigid works just fine!

I offered advice. You just whined.
+1 on the cross bike, especially if your MTBing is of the "adventure style" type.
Thanks for the cross-bike advice guys. This would really put an "adventure style" in my downhilling. But can't I just put a set of 36mm clip-ons on the big bike and and have me a do-it-all CX/DH bike?

I suddenly have the urge to make a follow call to a certain TV station in OR.

all i imagine when i see that picture is some guy eating his own tire shortly after he begins riding.
without knowing much about DH stuff i like the.
I suddenly have the urge to make a follow call to a certain TV station in OR.Really, it's inflammatory posts like this that add nothing to the forum discussion and is just so much extra froth like extra foam on a latte.
If nobody's going to answer my original question, I'm going to get all butt-hurt and throw an e-tantrum.

My vote goes to the corsair but only if you run two shocks. Because that would like be awesome to have a bike with two shocks.
Two shocks is the poor-man's CCDB :D.
Although I know it can be run without it, I honestly think the Corsair design wouldn't be worth it without the second shock anyway.
At this point, top contenders in my mind are the Transition, Yeti and Corsair.

Have you checked out Kona's "magic link"......that thing can turn a 4" XC rig into a 7" freeride bike.

Cause it's magic...
duh!
I try to ignore Kona (even though the shop I ride for is a dealer). Never been a fan of their walking beam faux-bar. That's just me.
I have fierce loyalties to both Transition and Yeti for obvious reasons; and Corsair is headed up by a former sponsor (Doug Stuart, past CEO of FSA).

Honestly, that's a GD engineering marvel if it doesn't suffer from chain stretch or shrinkage during full travel. Nikola Tesla couldn't have designed better.

Nikola Tesla couldn't have designed better.B2B, did you just insult the high priest of engineers by comparing his accomplishments to bicycle design ?

I think you should get a rigid beach cruiser.:D
^^ No way! I can't be "Hurricane Hannah" without at least 3 gearz and front suspension!

The Transition is hot. Corsair still new enough to be an unknown quantity, though early reports sound good. Unless Felt comes out with something totally dialed on size and geoemtry, meh. Do you really need the equilink thing on a DH race bike? The Scott may require selling a kidney. Possibly the Yeti as well.
I'm betting the Transition will have dialed geometry, particularly for where you live/ride/race the most, and come in at a lower pricepoint. Plus it's the least fugly.
The Transition is hot.Agreed. And if it has the things I'm looking for (same chainstay length/rider postioning as the Blindside; higher BB; lower CG) it will probably get the nod.
Corsair still new enough to be an unknown quantity, though early reports sound good.Corsair fascinates me; plus Tim (LBS owner) and Doug go way back.
Unless Felt comes out with something totally dialed on size and geoemtry, meh. Do you really need the equilink thing on a DH race bike?Well . . . if they have it, they seem to use it: SC and Intense are using the VPP on the V-10 and 951; Giant's putting the Maestro on the Glory; etc., etc. Needed? No. Nice bonus if it lets a DH bike still behave like a DH bike in all the right ways? Probably.
The Scott may require selling a kidney. Possibly the Yeti as well. That's why I'm looking at the 303R. Grassroots pricing on a 303 is still somehwere in the stratosphere and has been out of the question. Scott would not normally be on my radar for the reason you mention but is a special circumstance.
I'm betting the Transition will have dialed geometry, particularly for where you live/ride/race the most, and come in at a lower pricepoint. Plus it's the least fugly.I'm working off the premise that all have the potential for shaking out comparably cost-wise. But Transition has been good to me and if it improves upon the Blindside in the same way the Blindside improved upon my Gran Mal, I'd be hard-pressed not to go that route.

You should go with whatever company will put a custom paint job on the underside of the bike. It should be a note saying: "I'm okay!"
That's provided, of course, that anybody will even want me after next week.

If there would have been full suspension Mathematical engineering back then, yeah, The Scott would be hot! The Felt Design would be Svelt! The Transition would have a transsmision! And the Corsair would get air!

^^ That looks downright scary . . . but I think it still needs like a 54V lithium ion pack and a rewound 24V military surplus DC mill :D.
