Simply stated, which rear hub do you all find better for XC/single-track ripping? Same rim (mavic 819) on both. I ask because a friend wants to swap my Hugi for his XTR. Both have similar mileage, he just needs the standard bolt pattern for his disc. My front hub is a Cdale so its no issue for me either way in terms of matching.

Take that back, Hugi is built with a Mavic 819 rim. XTR is built with an XTR rim (24 spoke count I believe). The one thing I will miss is the sound of the hugi freewheeling

The Hugi is a better hub in almost every way.

Hugi.

There ain't no better hub for performance OR sound than a Hugi.

For a hub comparison alone, DT. Maybe the 240 instead though.

Some people complain about freehub failures on shimano hubs. I've used a lot of shimano hubs (Tiagra, LX, Ultegra, XT) and have never experienced this. However, shimano requires a bit more maintenance as it is non sealed bearing, and the cup and cone system is pretty sensitive to adjustment.

That said I just bought an XT 29er wheelset because the package as a whole was really appealing (and at a good price).
