Just thought I'd share since you guys inspire me all the time..I hit the 40 mile mark for the first time today!!
Only been riding again for about a month and half/2 months. I hit 27 miles last week and stretched it out today and it felt great, even on a mountain bike. I did break my cheapy pedals though and will be asking the wifey to apply some aquaphor to my hiney tonight:)
I started out at 305lbs and wont be weighing myself until my next dr. checkup, just trying to change living habits and be healthier, but everybody tells me I need new clothes because mine are falling off me ..whoopee!
Been doing at least 10 miles a day now so hopefully it's paying off, if not I'm at least feeling better and enjoying myself dong it.

Looking forward to that Kal Haven ride in the fall.

Way To Go
Its always nice to put on that that shirt and pants that you always put on and have someone notice that they are FALLING off you ....since you get use to them and think that they are just more comfortable....
40 miles is great I thought I felt good for hitting the 20 mark at 3 weeks..
Again way to go!!

Thanks, my goal is a century by the end of the summer but I'm thinking after 40 today on that mountain bike I may want a different bike before I try that. Those roadies were cruising by me like nobodies business, and as I stated before , my bum was hurting quite a bit by time I was done. Maybe I can find an inexpensive road bike on CL for when I want to stretch it out like that.

Try riding for time instead of distance. As you get fitter, you'll need less time and energy to ride 10 miles. Since you probably carve out a certain amount of workout time a day, just ride for that time and you'll see the distance you cover in that time creep up. After a while, you'll need to bump up the intensity just to get the same workout.

edit: and adjust your saddle to find that comfortable sweet spot.
