... How has it affected cycling?

I hate the word 'twitter' - it sounds very girlish. Whenever I read of a cyclist 'twittering', I think of a bird in spandex and cleats chirping.

Its damned irritating.

It hasn't affected it on the road . . . . but sooner or later some yahoo will text during a race and crash. Then it will be golden comedy I suppose.

Twittering will stay around until some other form of communication comes along to grab the attention of wandering minds.

What I don't like about it is that its too convenient a way of shooting one's mouth off - without doing so on camera. Its like a faster version of blogging, with the delay needed to avoid embarassment and awkwardness.

You guys sound like a bunch of old farts!!! Twittering is the way of the future. Its how celebrities are going to communicate without the need of real journalists. Look at LA as example. His son was born and he instantly tweats about it, no need for a long drawn out press conference or press release. The same for facebook! Its social networking linked with instant information being passed along to the masses.

Its not going away!!

Its an information overload - there are things I don't want to know about, and the tweet gets carried by the old media to us all the same.

I have a 15 year old sister. None of the kids her age that I have met think it's useful or cool. That might be a sign that it's just what Ed said, a fad.

Twitter or Microblogging is definitely not a fad. Just think of it as RSS on steroids. Teens are actually microblogging, they are using Facebook and Myspace implementations of the same concept.
