So, I am starting my own bike tool collection and have some questions about chain breakers. There are so many chains available, is there a universal tool that will work on all (or most)? I assume 3/32 and 1/8 chains use different tools, is there a universal tool for this application also?
Thanks!
A plasma cutter should work on just about anything... :p
My best answer: probably. But it's not always easy to tell.

Don't forget there are also two types of quick release chains, and if you have one of them you just need plyers - http://bicycletutor.com/quick-release-chain-link/ . Also I've used my chain breaker on loads of bikes now and it seems fine, but it would not work if the distance from the top of the chain section to the pin head was different.

So does anyone have a link to a good universal tool?

This works on just about any chain. There are lower cost ones available, but this is a tough shop-tool.

That tool only works on 3/32 chains. They have a seperate tool for 1/8 chains. Is there a universal tool that works on both? I dont want to buy two tools...

Yes - forgot to mention that. The Park Tool CT-7 is for 1/8th inch chains.

So there is no tool that works on both 3/32 and 1/8 chains then?

I just popped some links with my Park CT-3 chain-tool on a 1/8th inch chain for a 3-speed. No problems. Your mileage may vary.
