Southeast - In Asheville next week looking to ride Mt Mitchell

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey,

It's been a LONG time since I've posted here, probably since last year at this time. Time flies when you're busy. Anyway, I'm heading up to Asheville next week (Aug 5th-8th) and am looking to ride a couple of days while my wife works:D Last year I did the Mt Mitchell ride from Marion (up 80 and along BRP) and then had a nice ride with BikeWNC the next day along the BRP. This year I'd like to mix things up a bit if possible. Is everything fixed roadwork wise from Asheville to Mt Mitchell (up 694 I think)? How far a ride is it along that route?

I think it is still one lane for a short distance south of the entrance to Mitchell on the BRP but it is passable. A good starting point is on the BRP at the Blue Ridge Arts Center-or something like that. It's pretty much uphill for about 25-30 miles to the top of Mitchell. If you go to the Bicycle Club website in Asheville, they have some really good route sheets for rides in the Asheville area of different lengths and degrees of difficulty. I've done several of them when I'm visiting up that way.
