I was on my way out to do a short shakedown ride before my Half Ironman on Saturday when I ran into Curtis and Tricia just a few houses up from mine. We live in the same town, less than two miles apart! But events have conspired to keep me from EVER having ridden with Curtis before.
We yakked about my trip to Vermont and their trip to Washington, my upcoming race and how much I love my personal trainer.
We got back early Tuesday morning from our trip to Vermont and I had gone out for a very short ride on Wed. My Polar was refusing to pick up speed and my saddle was just a smidge off. I have fussy knees so at the first sign of not right, I head home. So for me today's ride was about making sure everything was good for my race on Saturday and practicing a little bit more with my aero bars. My darn Polar is still not picking up speed when on my bike, but does just fine when it's on my wrist. What's up with that?
Anyway... on to the hero part. I got a flat. I NEVER get flats. I run slime tubes so I don't get flats. But I vaguely remember getting a rear flat months ago and putting in a regular tube. I got out my stuff and changed the tube, couldn't find anything in the tire. But my zealous pumping damaged my new tube. And of course, my bike is set up for my race, I'm only carrying one replacement tube. Wonderful Curtis to the rescue patches the first tube and pumps it up. Dang that dude is fast at patching and pumping! If you're going to get a flat I highly recommend doing it on a ride with Curtis.
What a fun ride I had though. It was awesome to catch up and socialize. We need to do that more often. :D And I'm glad I flatted today, since I want slimes in BOTH tubes on Saturday.
