you know you're gonna have to rethread the steerer tube, right?
i'm currently researching the topic, but will appreciate any relevant links/threads regarding the rethreading. (no pun intended.) i
i'm sure i'd have the resources @ my bike co-op to accomplish this, but are there any risks?
is there an aesthetic alternative in 1" threadless stems?
did i mention, i'm lazy? hence the stock bike.

Nitto makes a really nice looking threadless stem, it doesn't have any drop to it though. you can get em at www.businesscycles.com they have a 25.4 clamp and looks more like a quill stem than a threadless.

Aesthetically, a traditional quill stem in a 1 1/8" head tube looks rather funky. As mentioned above, I would simply get a nice, elegant threadless stem such as the Nitto.

get a cheap road stem that points up, and point it down. go dig in bike shop used bins.
Thanks...the random road stem is probably the way i'll go, esp as i have an xtracycle to buy...otherwise, for the money, the sale cinelli grammo is tough to beat.

Oops....my mistake..... in that case go find a nice quill stem at your LBS basement and do the conversion.

C'mon, was that really necessary?
I can't help it, dude. (Lacklust-er being a common wordage.) Besides, I was tipsy.

don't forget you'll have to get a different headset if going from threadless to threaded. you can still use 1.125" threadless stems with 1" steer tubes, you'll just have to use a shim. as for 1" threadless stems, i personally love the look of the cinelli alter. they aren't made anymore, but are often times on ebay. i really like my stem; it's a forté from performance. it was super cheap, light, and nice looking imo.
p.s. i just looked on www.chucksbikes.com and found several cheap and decent looking threadless stems of various sizes...
Thanks for the heads up, I'll check chuck's.
