Here is my dilemma-I was not able to register in time for the Copper Triangle Ride this weekend in Colorado. I have a couple of friends who are riding and I would love to join them. If I send a donation to the Davis Phinney Foundation and do not use any of the aid stations, is it unethical to ride the course with my friends? I have no problem being self-supported on this ride, but I have never been in this situation before and am looking for some thoughts on it.

Tough question - On top of the ethics issue, rides in Colorado are running into problems with the locals due to too big of an inpact on local traffic. With the ride being "sold out", joining them as a freeloader will push them over their permit's number of riders limits. I'd have to suggest sitting this one out or riding elsewhere this weekend.
