i just purchased a new bike with the shimano nexus 3 speed doe any one know how to adjust it i only do paved trail cruiser riding

What do you need to adjust?
If it's the shifter, you should see an arrow in a window on the silvery cast zinc bell crank attached to the right end of the rear axle. The arrow should move when you operate the shifter. Put the shifter in second and the arrow on the bell crank should be between two red lines.
If not, the adjustment is made where the cable enters the bell crank. There is a device called a barrel adjuster. It is like a bolt with the cable housing going through its middle. There is a nut around it, just before it threads into the bell crank. The nut locks it in place. Loosen the nut, then thread the barrel adjuster in or out of the bell crank until the arrow is between the two red lines, then hold the barrel adjuster in place while you tighten the locking nut.
If the hub makes noise when you brake, then it needs grease. It's a special Shimano grease and is added by rotating the chrome steel cup covering the left end of the hub, outside the spokes, counterclockwise and squirting it into the hole which appears.

thankyou for the input.Do i need to take the wheel off to access the grease hole to lube the brake? thanks in advance

the brake shouldnt need any lubing. is your hub not shifting or making a funny noise? shimano 3 speeds usually dont require maintentance. what im getting at is, why do you think you need to adjust it?

The hole should appear facing leftward, just under the chrome steel arm which goes from the left end of the hub to the frame of the bike. The hole is underneath the arm until you rotate the shallow metal cup covering the end of the hub.
I haul my bike around some fairly hilly terrain. I can cause the grease to melt out of the coaster brake on longer descents. That's why I need to regrease from time to time. If you don't hear a grinding noise on heavy braking, then leave it alone. Too much grease will make it hard to pedal and you risk getting grit in your hub.

it shifts fine I don,t have any experiance with this hub the reason for my question is when i brake it makes a sound not grinding but the sme sound that you would hear when applying brakes on a car i just wondered if this is normal i appreciate your input

It might need a few squirts of grease.

new nexus 3 speeds grind all the time. dont know why. if noise is excessive, take it to where you bought it, shimano did have a small service bulletin. but some grinding is normal when the hub is new. every 3 speed beach cruiser ive built made funny noises when braking at first.
