I know there has been a lot of talk of computers and one of the more popular computers seems to be the Cateye Astrale 8. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Mavic Wintech computer? I like the idea of using the skewer as the sensor and I also like that it mounts to the stem.

I don't remember anyone mentioning owning this computer and thought I would see if anyone had any experience with it.

Thanks in advance.

I have looked at them and dont know what to think. I just bought a Cannondale Six13 that has the new FSA K-Wing Carbon bars and am trying to decide weather I should rig my currect cyclocomputer or buy a stem mounted. I currently use a Specialized 04 Speed Zone Pro Classic Computer it is the best wireless I have used. If you end up buying a Mavic make sure to post your thoughts on it. But like I said if you want a wireless computer and you dont need stem mount look at the 04 Speed Zone Pro Classic Computer.

I had one. I sold it about a month ago.
The display mounts on the stem , only, and not the bars. It is about the size of a small headlight. The pick-up / skewer is rather large also. The speedo keeps on running for about 6 seconds after you come to a stop, so your average speed readings are not very accurate. Just to make things clear , I did not like it.

Blastinbob, thanks for that info. I was wondering if the skewer larger than normal. Also, that speed stopping issue is a little strange.

I was debating on going with that one or I also like the look of the Cateye CD300DW or possibly the CD200DW. I think you talked me out of the Wintech. Now I must decide if I want the cadence feature or the heart rate feature on my computer. Decisions, decisions. :) I guess I've got time, it seems they aren't going to be available for a month or so.

Have one of these and an astrale 8 on my commuter. Wish they were reversed. Got it originally because LBS couldn't sell them and were out of astrale 8 when I purchased my bike, so they gave me the wintec and the cadence for $40. Aside from the stopwatch & mounting issues brought up by Balstinbob, I don't have any complaints about its use. It doesn't interfere with my wireless HRM, and it works in rain/dust/wind & under high-voltage lines. I still say for the price they are asking, get the astrale.

Had one for a couple of weeks, hated it. The installation wasn't as easy as I expected. The displayed sucked. I returned it and got a Flight Deck.

I have the Mavic Wintech and used it for the first time this weekend. The computer/display is large but is easy to see. It fits on the stem out of away from the bar. If you need to mount a light or a HR monitor, you have room. Plus is provides more room for your hand positions.

The sensor on the end of the quick release isn't small. But this eliminates the need for a sensor mounted on the fork that can move and get knocked loose. A sensor on the fork distracts away from the bikes looks more than a large skewer. Remember cordless sensors are much larger than non-cordless ones.

The speedo does keep running some after the wheel stops but every cordless computer does. But it's no way like six seconds.
