Hey there...

Am really, really new to this - like, so new I haven't bought a bike yet! But am getting into some research and thinking about trying to prove the 'as easy as getting back on a bike' thing... I used to get around a lot as a teenager on my big brothers old racer, so, thought I'd finally aim to get fit and see some more of our beautiful city (and country, if the mileage most people tend to rack-up is anything to go by!!).

For some reason I've taken a liking to the Trek 1.2 or 1.5. There's a great deal going on a 1.5 up the road - only NZ$100 (about US$65) more than a 2009 1.2... but it must be a 2008. Shame it's not that cool green of the '09.

Anyway, cycling sounds like a great way to get out and about and get fit at the same time (I haven't been fit for 10 years or so either... so, this 36 year old BMI-28 body has a shock coming!) The plan to get a good road bike and focussing on the sporty/training/speed! aspect of it to get me motivated, rather than a mountain bike for 'just cruising about the place' seems like a smart one, no?

Cheers
Kent

Road bikes are great for training, mtbs are a complete different kind of riding which uses more of the body because a lot of it has to do with being able to maneuver and pull the bike around.......I'm talking over obstacles and such.

The search is ongoing. Yes, the 'great deal' is a 2008, and a very nice deal. But then, I've found a pretty good used deal at half that money... ahh tough call...

Depending upon how old or how used the older one is, you have to weigh out the pros and cons of a newer bike. Consider what you may have to replace later on down the line on the used bike. Plus there's the upgrades of the newer one that you may want to consider. Because what if you got the older one and want to upgrade it? The 2008 might already have it.

Take a friend who knows or go to Park Tools website, this should give you a little more education.
I find this website is a great resource
I started out 3 years ago with a low end mountain bike ( Trek 820 ) and I have never looked back.
Well only when someone was coming up from behind.
Just get one and go!
