It looks like this

Are these permanent or is there a trick to getting them apart? Squeeze pull??

On my Taya chain the 'sigma link", as they call it, is removable. You have to flex the chain with the removable plate on the inside of the radius. The link will pop and the plate will come off.

I should point out that I am not sure the link is supposed to be reused after this. My chain is a single speed 1/8" chain and I haven't had any problems, but somebody else may know if they are really reusable.

It may use similar procedure as this one

http://www.connexchain.com/data-live-connex/docs/pdf/Bedienungsanleitungen/Manual_Snap_On.pdf

That is, you flex the chain sideways.

Zombie chain breaking thread-- but I just did this, and it was indeed a b. to do. I wound up calling my 5 year old over and having him pry the plates apart with a small needlenose pliers while I pushed in and twisted. Phew.

My experience with the Taya links are that they are not as strong as the KMC, SRAM and Connex links. I broke several of them while riding but have never had any problems with the KMC or Connex links after tens of thousands of miles and many remove/re-installs. (not tried the SRAM's)

Hmm. It wouldn't be the best thing to snap on my tandem...

I keep a spare master link in my seat bag - they're tiny.

I also recently purchased that park took for removing master links and it really makes it easy (SRAM 10 speed mast links aren't supposed to be reused but I did anyway :) )
