If anyone has some knowledge of motorcycle maintenance, I sure could use some help. If not, maybe I'll try to find a motorcycle forum...

I've read it. It says absolutely nothing about why my master cylinder isn't working. Stupid book. :P

Didn't you see the chapter on engine rebuilding toward the end? :p :innocent:

Just rebuilt my master cylinder and it's not working. No fluid is being pumped out. I honed the bore and all of the seals are new. There's no leaking coming from anywhere, it's just not being pumped out.

This is a fun read for anyone that's tried to restore anything. It's less philosophical than Zen and more mechanical, but he chronicles how his life was taken over by this "simple" project. Great book.

Philosophical? Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?

I skipped over the philosophical stuff.

It was a good foreward to the story.

I hear you're supposed to read Zen two times. The first time, read it for the road trip, the second time, read it for the philosophy.

I haven't gotten around to reading it a second time. :o

Hmmmmm.......
Spoke too soon, I guess.
In brake stuff, 95% of the time its airbubbles screwing with stuff.
I always do stuff by process of elimination. Disconnect the caliper
and pump the lever to make sure the fluid is even moving.
Is the plunger thingee in the kit made for overbore ?

It's not overbore, just honed. No fluid is moving, though. I'm thinking of trying a different way of bleeding it, though...

I once thought that. The skull facture, missing teeth, dangling eye, and brain damage said differently. God, I'll miss that girl... :innocent:

I only read it once as well....and I took the philosophy away from the story. I'm not sure I could read it again....it's a slow read because of the philosophy content.

Anyway, enough thread derailment....back to motorcycle fixy uppy stuff.

Im more intouch with my bike and surrounding while riding brakeless.
The old lady I just missed at the last intersection and rearend'r I
just caused are really comfortable knowing I am a well connected rider :thumb:

On topic....
Clamp/bungee the lever with the hose in a cup of brakefluid and see if
time/pressure dont drive the offending demons out over the course of
an hour or so ?

hmmm.... I'll try this other idea and if it doesn't work, then maybe I'll let it sit.

Look, I did not even stay in a Holiday Inn Express this year. I did my best. Well that is not true either, but it is only UnsafeAlpine we are talking about here.

UA, have you slapped it with the palm of your hand or waved a big ass hammer at it and cussed at it? If so, what words did you use?

"BFH" is the technical term.

Is bench bleeding required (bleed the MC prior to connecting the brake line to the caliper)? I know it is on a car master cylinder, not sure about the motorbike.

Or have you not connected it to the caliper yet?

I've tried about a hundred different ways. I'm looking at the reservoir now to see if it's blocking the fluid port.

Well, damn. Found out my issue was bleeder error but now the fluid isn't going through the hose... oh well. 1 step forward, 37,943 steps back.

soak the hose in a pan of fluid, install it, the re-bleed (?)

A combination of installing the parts correctly, bleeding the master cylinder correctly, soaking the houses, and using a cut up shirt hanger to get the rest of the crap in the hose out.

installing the parts correctlyBlasphemy.

Blasphemy.

I originally thought so, too, but apparently it's the only way to do it. Stupid correct installations. :P
