I'm currently one of two on the list. How's that for an exclusive group? Okay, I realize that this is an obscure designation given by an obscure organization which is a spinoff of another bigger obscure organization, and there are many other members of that bigger obscure organization who can out-ride me with both feet tied behind their back. But hey, whatever it takes to get my name on the internet... :)

I sort of feel like Steve Martin in The Jerk being all excited about the new phone book arriving because it has his name in print.

Luckily I have the excuse that the list is only open to North Americans and so my lack of speed is not a factor. ;-)

Congrats, Steve! Had any thoughts about their Wa state challenge, e.g. doing Seattle-Windy Ridge-Seattle sub 24 hours? I'd love to try it but I'm sure it would take me about 36 hours to complete.

I should have an easier time of this moving to Florida later this month. Too damn hilly here (which is awesome, but forget about 28- let alone 24(!)-hour 600Ks. Going to have to put a bigger cog on that fixie and go try 'n get me an R60! ;)

What part of Fl you moving to? We are definitely fixie friendly down here.

You have to complete a whole series in that time. The rides can be spread across two consecutive years.

I've thought about the challenge, but did you read Mark, Ryan and Jan's ride report? Holy sh**, that ride nearly did in Mark and Ryan both. I've ridden with both of those guys on brevets and they're way beyond my abilities. The only way I could personally see pulling that off is to get a group of five or six strong riders and work as a team. Even then, I'm not sure it's within reach for me.

The other option is to do Jan's 600k in Sept. in under 28 hours. I'll see how that goes and if it's within reach when I get to the overnight, I'll probably push through without sleep.

yep, as TomM says it's the whole series. You can also upgrade your rating if you improve your time on a later brevet of the same distance within the two years. For example, my 200k and 300k times were under 70%, but my 400k and 600k times were over 70%. If I can post 400k and 600k times under 70% later this year or next year, I can upgrade to R70. Basically, you can pick your best time for each distance within a two year period. Or at least I think that's how it works.

{OT** The Octopus family is moving to Gulfport (West of St Pete). We're originally from Seminole County.... I'll be riding brevets with both the Gainsville group and the Central Florida club (when those rides aren't way down in South Florida!). {/OT**

I skimmed their report - didn't realize Mark/Ryan had a tough time of it, yeah they're way stronger than me too so I figure that ride (in 24) is out of my reach for now..

As for Jan's 600 yeah I can't wait, though I'm just shooting to finish - I DNFd the ride last year so this time I'm extremely determined to get it done!

Looking at the results from last year is an eye opener. There are some strong riders on that list with finishes around 37 - 38 hours. That, and my fairly pathetic speed on RAMROD has me thinking I'll be lucky to finish within the time limit.

Oh well, I'm still excited about the 600k. It should be a blast.

I think you'll put on a strong showing at that 600, if your past performances are any indication. Lawd knows you'll finish ahead of me...
