Professional Cycling For the Fans - Admit it. You pretend you're Lance when you ride :)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Lance is the man in my book. A supreme example of what a human being can do if he or she reaches deep down inside and "just does it." Anyway, I wonder how often you imagine you look/ride/sit/etc like Lance? I know any time I go up a hill, sitting back a bit in the seat, grabbing the tops and pumping away, I think that my face must look exactly like his in the '01 TdF when he psyched Ulrich out. When I hit 90-100 rpm's, I think "Just like Lance". LOL I know it's silly, but I just can't help it. So fess up. When do YOU mirror Lance? :D

I will never admit it.

Actually, no, I don't pretend I'm Lance.

Early in the season, though, while I was recovering from an injury that put me in the hospital overnight and it still hurt to ride, I thought of Tyler a lot.

At the moment, I'm like Lance later in life after he's gone on a Eddy Merckx cheeseburger bender... :)

I pretend I'm a 230 pound Eddy Merckx (a prime Eddy, of course). I will never be built like a cyclist.

I'm a slim and trim 230 pounds though. And I cut to 205 for my fights... starvation and dehydration suck. :)

never thought of being Lance, though I'm Lance's fan.

I am not lance , but when I ride , I troll for races , even if the other biker doesnt know whier racing . I have to compete . I remember passing cars in one dual with my nemisis who rides a trek . I was going up a hill and this guy on a trek comes up from behind and says " great day for a ride " and takes off . Im more of a sprinter , so I let him get about a 30 second lead . Then on the flats , I cranked it up . Musta been doing over 40 , cought the guy too < but had to pull into a shop and get some water .

I pretend I'm the guy on the mag trainer pretending to be Lance in the commercial <g>.
I was the 265 pound Eddy Merckx who thanks to diet and bike riding trimed down to 220 now. That is a normal weight for my height/frame. After a 20 year hiatus biking helped me get healthy again.

When I'm climbing and spinning, I pretend I'm Armstrong.
When I'm riding, I probably feel most like Pantani. (earthling/alien/whatever)
When I just sit around the house and pig out on junk food all day, I pretend I'm Merckx.
When I go party and do illegal drugs, I pretend I am Ullrich.

I kid, I kid

About the guy on the bike pretending he's Lance in that commercial: who wears their helmet when riding a trainer? :D

Beats me, probably the same guy who would ride his trainer outdoors on an obviously nice day for a real ride.

I have a new hero for when I pretend...Magnus Backstedt. I hear he's over 200lbs! He's my new favorite rider.

i try to match my form to lance's rather than pretend to be him. for example, because of him, i'm more aware of my cadence and pedaling technique. i do have to say though...that nike commercial was pretty damn inspirational. i did a lot more riding because of it. :D

Would it be wrong if I said that I like small Italian men?

<I gravitate toward the Simoni/Cunego types ... yeesh! those guys weigh 130 lbs.>

I hear that. I have a hard time not rushing out for a ride every time I see that commercial.

ya know, riding with lance prolly wouldn't be any more different than
when i ride solo..conversation wise.. he just doesn't really have anything
that makes me think "wow"--granted he's one of the greatest cyclist--
but... i dunno...
NOW, OTOH, on my ride today, all i could think as i accelerated or pushed
hard up a hill was the phrase "Fassa Bortolo!" "Fassa Bortolo!" "Fassa Bortolo!"
dunno why--it's not even a person.. but damm it's a cool road biking phrase--
yeah and it's a company too.. for the "Duh!'s" out there--you know who you are...
i'm one too sometimes.

There was this guy on my last group ride who was wearing a full Fassa Bortolo kit. I tried to lead him out so he could win the final sprint, but when I looked back he wasn't there anymore! :D

I never pretend I'm someone else, just pretend I can kick their ass in the alps. That take much more "pretending."

I don't pretend to be Lance, but I sometimes fantasize about being part of the Blue Train. On the way to the office this morning I was coming down 21st Street into midtown but in my mind I was taking my turn at the front of the Posties in the Team Time Trial.
