Used, but not at all abused.
Also, the brake levers are Deore V-brake but the brakes are Avid BB5s? Does this make a difference?

In my experience used bikes typically don't seel until the price gets down to about half retail...in your case around $300. I don't agree with the economy of it, but that's how it is.
No, it doesn't matter that it has Deore levers, they're compatible with BB5's, as are any linear brake lever.

Clearly in that link Special Ed has spec'd BBS, not BB5, brakes, whatever those are. Might be some special version of the BB5 just for Special Ed...can't think of what they could remove, though. The best levers for any mechanical disk are those that have adjustability for leverage, though.
I'd offer maybe 25% of retail...

A lot depends on your area. Look at prices on CL as a guide. The 50 cents on the dollar is a little conservative, but not far off. IMHO, For a really nice condition bike, hardly used, that is the exact size you want, 60% of retail is not a bad deal. At 70% of retail, start looking for discounts on leftover bikes from 08, 09. I had no trouble finding 25% off on leftovers. Some have done better than that. I've seen well over 30% off retail, but those are usually higher end bikes. Entry level bikes are not discounted as much.
