Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Red vs.black

Stupid question i suppose,but why is my user name and other info in red and others black.Not that it matters but curious?New to this forum,sorry if its been asked elsewhere.

I've noticed mine is always red too. Scary, isn't it?

Seriously, since this same question is asked (and answered) at least once a month, it might be a good idea for the Forum Kahunas to put up a little notice somewhere.

Names in red are members who are currently online.
Names in black are members who are offline or have their preferences set to invisible.

Yellow jersey next to the name is a member with an upgraded account.
A Red Star next to the name is a member with an upgraded account that they purchased before IB bought BikeForums.
A blue star is a moderator or a member with fleas.
Three blue stars are admins or a member with boils.

I was beginning to think that having my username in red meant I was in a probationary period or something worse. Good to know and it makes sense. Maybe it ought to be mentioned in the FAQ's?

Well, if you PM'ed another member who was in red and they answered right back then the least you could assume is that you could PM on probabion?

Actually, no. There is no probation. When a temporary or fulltime ban is nearing or nigh, BF will send an email warning of it (according to administration). There are standard infractions, points tallied, automatic short-term ban criteria and permabans (as in you are nuked). If you have looked at the Banned Users thread, they are not only fairly judicious, they will correct mistakes where they see them having been made. At least it is a very fair system and all members can clearly see why the action has been taken.

So rest assured and know that it's just like the little asleep/awake face some outfits use to denote if a messenger is signed on for the user. Also saves you from going to the home page and scrolling all the way down to see who is online...
