General Cycling Discussion - OK, I'm a little intimidated

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I only average about 10-15 miles a day or so - sometimes on an indoor bike (the weather in the Northeast doesn't always co-operate). You all seem very professional here, but very nice too. Is this really the place for a 230 pound balding ex-pat English chap???
I should mention that I've just finished a bottle of sauvignon blanc so i may be just being a big old softie :o

I should dig a hole and bury my head in then....
Hi,
there's always room at the table here. I weigh more than you, and I'm prob older. But I have been adding few miles here and there for a couple years now. Did 43 miles yesterday. Didn't touch the bike today though...... You can accomplish a lot with a little patience.

This IS the place for you, Moon. I'd love to have the time to go 10-15 miles every day. I'm lucky to get in 2 rides a week. Vacation is only a week away, so I'll get in some more saddle time then. Anyway, the important thing is that you're riding and enjoying it. We're not all Lance - even if you're only averaging 5 mph, you ARE out there. Don't be intimidated. Ride at your own pace and mileage. You know what feels best for you.

You must have a big house.

Don't go to the politics & religion forum then.

You'll definitely fit right in then.

You can only stay if you share the sauvignon. :D
Seriously... this place has everything from 8% body fat, hard core racer types to 230 lb balding ex-pat English chaps... and everything in between (which is where I fall, I think).
Welcome!

Well, there is a current discussion about a potential 450 lb rider, and our oldest known member is 83, so you are just a skinny young thing!
Enjoy.

Lemme see... 90kg, so about 200 lbs. not balding yet, but getting pretty thin on top. Ex-pat. English. Well hell, I seem to fit the criteria, and I haven't been ostracized (yet). Welcome!

I am also "a 230 pound balding ex-pat English chap" and I find this a very comfortable place to visit when I am not riding. What bike do you ride and what type of riding?

I ride 6-10 miles 3-4 days a week. I ride pretty hard though. Weather down south has been nasty also. Added to my misery is a pulled pec muscle and Heat.

ex-patriate. Somebody living outside their home country. I've only really known the term used with reference to Englishmen living abroad, but I guess the term applies generally to all people.

OK, i was being silly wasn't I
I ride (what the shop described as ) a hybrid - it;s a Specialized expedition. I do local roads, often down to the ocean (well, Long Island Sound anyway).
And it wasn;t Itlaian - it was South African sauvignon blanc and it was excellent! :)
Clydesdales rule!
230 is sooOooOOo lightweight.
Welcome to the forums. :)
