Hey guys,

First time posting. It looks like a lot of great info on here. My problem is, I need a good helmet. I have been using my old protec helmet from my skating days. It's not cutting it. However, the way my head is shaped, I can't find a helmet for mountain biking that fits properly. They all sit too high on my head, with the sides several inches above my ears. It looks ridiculous, and doesn't seem to provide much protection. My head is just tall and squarish.

First: What's best style of helmet for intermediate mtb? Full face? Vented? Etc...
Second: Has anyone had this same big head problem, but found a brand or model that works?

I appreciate any help, I don't want to splatter the old brains, and I don't want to look like an idiot either.

Xc lid should be fine.

Luis Garneau fits me (I got a big head). Try Bell as well as Mace or MadMax (forget the manufacurer)

Full face is likely overkill :)

My dad has a large head as well as a generous amount of hair. His favorite helmets are Bell and Lois Garneau.

I agree with Maelstrom about full face being overkill. Unless your doing large jumps/drops/etc. then a regular helmet should be fine.

Thanks guys, I will check those out. I can find plenty of helmets to fit around my head, they just perch way up on top. I look like a mushroom with handles. I actually cut padding out of the top of my old protec helmet to make it sit lower. Not safe, I know.

I also agree with him and Mael. I've read good things about the Lois Garneau. But the fullface would be over kill. Like forum*rider said there for downhill, jumps and large drops.

I've got a rather large gourd myself and I've had great luck with Specialized helmets. Louis Garneau is another brand that works for me but I still prefer the Specialized fit, ventilation, and styling.
