Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Shorts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Figured I'd be short and to the point...>_>
Anyway, I only have like one pair of shorts because I usually like wearing long pants more (not sure why) but I'd like to have a couple of pairs of shorts for biking. After looking at biking shorts and deciding that I would not look good in them, I decided to ask you guys for advice.
What is a good type of shorts to wear on a bike for a bigger guy who doesn't want the tiny bicycle shorts? :/
Thanks.
Bicycle shorts with basketball shorts over them. Works for me.

Wear tiny bicycle shorts, because they have the padding and wicking properties needed to be comfortable, then throw whatever you're comfortable being seen in over the top. I'm a big fan of the Falconi Deluxe bib shorts (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=530258) from Love2Pedal.com (http://www.love2pedal.com)...
I don't know why, but the thing about knickers, and tights is that
they don't seem so Reno 911 to me.
YMMV

Mountain bike baggies with the built in liner may work.
Or you can just buy bicycling specific padded under shorts and wear them with you favorite shorts. http://www.rei.com/category/4500003_Cycle+Clothing/q/Cycling+Underwear I have worn padded boxers with jeans on a skinny road bike saddle and felt fine for a 40 mile ride.
If you find shorts or pants without seams in the crotch they work best. Old military BDU pants have a solid panel in the crotch that work surprisingly well for bicycling. I fin the MUSA pants and shorts to work very well since they were made for bicycling. http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/clothing#product=22-078 http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/clothing?a=1&page=all#product=22-642 http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/clothing?a=1&page=all#product=22-072
They don't have padding but the gusseted crotch makes a huge difference by itself.

Another vegan clyde? I thought I was the only one...
I wear regular spandex shorts (actually, bibs). But, I have some of the mountain bike shorts that I wear to work. They are regular spandex shorts but have cargo shorts over them. They are great because they look like regular shorts (have pockets and everything) but they provide the advantages of cycling shorts.

Interesting. O_o. I get a lot of weird looks for being a bigger vegan who isn't pale.
Thanks for the replies. Once the shock from the buying of the bike wears off I'll start looking into these options. Then I can start looking into those sexy skin tight jerseys. ^_^

I get that, too. I'm not vegan right now, but I've been at least vegetarian for 26 years and I'm all clyde. When I have to reveal that I am a vegetarian sometimes I will say, "I'm the biggest vegetarian you will ever meet."
As to shorts, I found that once I only really care about how people see my body if I haven't been working out. After a couple of hard workouts I am proud of myself. Even though I don't actually look different than I did the day before, MY perception is totally different. You might find the same is true for you. If I feel good about my body, I actually am more embarrassed by the silly logos and bright colors than the tight fit.
You say "Once the shock from the buying of the bike wears off I'll start looking into these options." I assume you are talking about the price. The Love2Pedal clothes are really, really cheap, so look there first if money is tight. They even have a discount code for members of the clyde su-forum.
