I just wanted to encourage some of you who are shy or just haven't gotten around to going on a group ride, to seriously look for one to join.

I've been joining one group for the last month and a half and then got invited to join my LBS's new shop ride. It was a blast.

For those of you who say, I'm too slow or any other excuses (I used them all) you really are missing out on a lot of fun.

Search for rides in your area, many of them have several different paces, start low and see if you can move up into the faster pace.

One thing I have noticed is how much better and faster I have become because I have a group to push me. I even get to push them sometimes soon.

Try to get over any of the excuses and find a group ride to go on. It is so much fun!

Its funny, I have been using the same excuses as well. I seriously need to get my millage up though before I do (in my mind at least..) I can only crank out 10 miles now at a 13 MPH pace... I know I know.. very slow, but that should come up soon...

I do want to get into them though... There is a lot of them here in the North Texas area, and I am fortunate enough to have a work schedule that will allow it..

Check with your local bike shops and see if they lead group rides. I would think Cowtown has a bicycle association you could join who would have group rides as well. As for the weekend "Group" rides we have tons if you want to pay the entry fee. There are a bunch of good ones, and the 100 degree heat days are dwindling!

As soon as Jtgyk and I get past this little self destructive streak, we really need to resurrect the North Texas C&A group ride idea again.

I agree with OP 100%, and it doesn't have to be a huge group. Even a group of 6-10 riders can make for a far more interesting ride.
