It's official, I slipped well into the little guy ranks this week. I got my Clyde Emeritus certificate last year when I hit 199 pounds. Unfortunately, I went back to 213 over the winter and had to lose all of it back.:( This year I tried a different approach, since last year I lost 4-6 pounds of muscle in the process. I had a trainer at the gym develop a circuit weight training routine to try to keep more muscle on. The results have been harder to gain this year, but more satisfying. Last year at 199 I had 21.1 percent body fat with 156 pounds of lean body mass. This year, I am at 194 pounds and have 160 pounds of of lean body mass at 17.4 percent body fat. I still have a little bit more of a belly then I want, but my 4 year old daughter tells people that I am skinny:D So, the question where do I go from here. I can ride everything that I have set out to do so far with little problem, riding wise at least. My trainer, who is the top female time trial rider in her age division, wants me to try doing a TT . I opened my mouth and told her I would do it if she could get me down to 185 pounds. That would require that I get down into the 13.5 percent body fat range, which is lower then I have ever been in my adult life. I'm not sure that I can get that low, and really don't know if I want to either, but it might be fun to try. :)

You must leave this forum immediately and only return when you are up to 200(+) again ;). (Joking of course)

Congratulations on your weightloss :thumb:. Has your trainer also helped with your diet or nutrition? Losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time is difficult, but doable. It seems easier if you concentrate on one aspect though while still being mindful of the other.

Congratulations on where you are! You should be able to lose the additional weight. Hopefully your trainer will help with nutrition as well as training. I got down from 268 to 215 on my own, then hired a trainer just about a year ago. Saturday I was 178 and 14% body fat (and this morning she rode 32 miles with me, then I went out for another 15 just to make it worthwhile :-). Aside from the actual training sessions, she's helped with nutrition info, and just how/when to eat.

She had my track my calorie intake for a while, but was about it diet wise. She said what I was doing was working and to just keep it up. I am working on maintaining what muscle mass that I have at this point and not trying actually gain any. My muscle gain was from getting large again over the winter. :( My fat loss is averaging about a pound a week, so she seems happy with that pace.

Well congratulations yourself, that is quite an achievement, Tom needs to make you a certificate too!!! I'll PM Tom to ge that going.:thumb:

According to my trainer, the plan is to get my weight down first using the routine that I have now. The circuit training is designed as a cardio/core workout for during riding season. This fall/winter my next step is to increase my strength with weight training. The finale step will be an on the bike session with her on how to do a time trial. She thinks she can have me race ready by February of next year.
