View Full Version : Campy bottom brackets and CX racing
Hello this is related to a topic below about the Campy Chorus group on a 'cross bike. One of the responses indicated that Campagnolo bottom brackets might not be the best choice for CX bikes. Does anyone have any other bottom bracket in mind that would work with Campy Chorus or Centaur cranks?
Thanks.

i can't coment on the chorus bb, but the centaur ac-h bb is a pretty fragile piece of hardware. it might work well enough on the road, but the stresses of cyclo-cross are a bit too much for it. i went through three in one season. the problem is that water and grit get into the frame, and tend to weaken the adhesive that bonds the drive side cup to the bb body. quit simply, the bb fall apart.
the biggest problem, though, is in the square-taper spindle. you put a lot of load on the cranks when you drive through the mud, and they have a habit of coming loose, sometimes even in the middle of a race, no matter how hard you have the cranks torqued down. the square taper also makes for a pretty mushy bb, which is something you will notice in a race.
yo can only use campy bb's with campy cranks. better to go with an after-market product like the truvativ elita or the fsa gassamer cross crankset with an isis bb.
