Fifty Plus (50+) - Today's ride: Pan-Mass Challenge 1-day

Today was great, I have ridden one or another of the PMC rides the previous 4 years by myself, along with 5000 other cyclists. This year was special, as my daughter and daughter-in-law rode with me. My DIL is a mommy, and was a little late getting to the start, but it was fine because we didn't have to contend with the crush of departure. The ride was awesome, the weather was good, and husband,son, and grandson all greeted us at the end. A great family day.

For all those who don't know - the PMC requires between $1K and $3K donations to fight cancer. If you rode today it was most likely Wellesley to Wellesley - a $1k donation minimum ride.

I truely applaude your work at putting these donations together and if you poney'd up the money yourself - fantastic! It is people like you who really make a difference in this world.

More like $3K for the 1 day ride. That's why a bunch of switched to the Prouty. Trying to raise $3k from friends in this economy is tough. Great job!

Sorry Dave - unless thier Website (http://www.pmc.org/articles.asp?ArticleID=67) lies, $1K for the Sunday Wellesley to Wellesly ride.

But again - that does not overshadow the accomplishment.

Thanks for raising the funds!! Dropped in to see my brother in law yesterday who is breast cancer of all things. What a ravaging disease cancer is......

Breast Cancer in men is unusual but was one of the problems that was Pointed out to me when I had Prostate Cancer. Don't know why it was mentioned but it does occur.

Most of my organised rides are for some form of charity- but I am doing the "FUN " ride on the London leg of the Tour of Britain. The ride is for Prostae Cancer and my only concern is "Why do Charities get greedy" OK- this is a special charity for me and the event is very special- But $100 entry- if you could get one- and $500 minimum Sponsorship.

I will be hitting my customers and workmates but that target will be hard to hit.

And another ride I use to do- Entry of $50 and I always donated $50- no longer gets my patronage. They want $200 entry and $500 minimum sponsorship for a 4 hour ride.


But for anyone that raises funds for charity-I will say thank you to all of you. Especially when it is a charity that I have a personal association with.

Oh, I was quoting fund raising for the one day Wellesley to Bourne ride. Sorry!

I have to say I'm impressed by the dedication of the cancer-fighting cyclists.

I came across a group of cyclists Saturday who were truly suffering: many on hybrids, wearing tennis shoes, struggling up hills, frankly looking half-dead. I asked them what on earth they were doing out there and they told me they were training for a major cancer funding-raising ride coming up in about two months.

I don't think some of them will make it, but helmets off to their tenacity and dedication.
