It's vintage mid 90s...

here's the auction

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280380436172&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D28038043617 2%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

Got it for $550...I can pick it up locally.

It's full Shimano 600/Ultegra...really nice frame...brand new old stock

I figured for $550 it's better than anything I could buy new from 2009/2010.

Appears reasonable, I am not sure I would classify it as a touring bike, road bike yes.

Thats a straight up race bike with a 1996 MSRP of $2168 and you paid $550 or 25% of MSRP for a NOS bike. Awhile back I sold a SR800 with 20 miles on the clock for $400 plus shipping with the 'But Now' option in 1 day which tells me it may been under priced.. The bike you bought has STI levers which can add $100 or so to the price. Did you overpay at $550? I'd call it borderline based on what I sold mine for and the fact that you paid 25% of MSRP for a NOS bike..

In general I can get $300 for used tri-color Ultegra bikes with regular down tube shift levers.

My infamous SR800:

+1 Full market price. Local pickup is a huge plus, as you save shipping and can verify it really is as described.

+1 A bottom end new road bike would cost you $800+, and not have anywhere near the component quality you just got. So the value is there.

I'd have paid it. Very fair price, and much less than a comparable newer bike. 600 Tricolor rules.

That's the headshock Cannondale. I have one and keep a close eye on the prices of those bikes. The prices stopped declining a couple of years ago. The Headshock adds to the weight, but gives a really smooth ride. All the frames for those bikes are pretty much the same. You'll find that bike transfers power to the ground like nothing else, but you pay for it when it comes to handling, very twitchy due to the short wheelbase. The previous owner of my bike raced it regularly. BTW, I think Shimano 600, 8 speed brifters are a real value as they are very smooth shifting units. Others must feel the same because they bring more bucks than other 8 speed shifters on ebay.
I think $550 plus shipping is about right for that bike. Since you didn't pay for shipping, you got a bargain.
Here's my SR500, upgraded with Alex 320s and 105, triple 9 speed brifters.
