General Cycling Discussion - New PerformanceBike.com website = sucks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Has anyone been on the new performance bike website, hopefully i am not repeating this but it sucks bad, it is annoying as hell to look at.
I'm not real fond of it either.
But I'll tell you what real makes me mad. They show items on their pages that are discontinued. WHY? If I can't buy it - DON'T SHOW IT!
Case in point: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=18170&subcategory_ID=1110
And what's even worse about this item is it says "New" on the main page listing.

I love the catologs i get in the mail, they show pictures of the new cateye wireless units and they say available late April above them. Hello, it's freaking JULY!!!!
I like their new site. No problems here. Their old site displayed discontinued items as well.

The look is OK. There are far, far worse looking web sites.
The problem I had with an order today was that I couldn't figure out how to apply Team Performance points to my order. Also lost in the shuffle was something that stated that my order would be shipped two-day as part of my membership. I made note of these problems in the comments section of my order. Hope they fix this soon, or I could go off the reservation for my cycling needs.

Oh and I had trouble finding shoes! At first, I couldn't find it in the menu on the left. Then I looked under clothing. Then I looked at the menu and found shoes paired with helmets and gloves I think. Confusing but I'm right-brained so I think in pictures to begin with...oooh, shiny thing in the sky....

More straightforward than the previous site with a more logical information architecture overall. I fail to see the problem.

The problem is the boxed view as opposed to the list view they used to have, know body uses those ugly boxed views. Look at all the successful websites ie amazon, buy.com etc, they all use a logical view.
I think the new design is one of the worst I have seen for a major retailer. It is harder to find what I want and the orange text is horrible.

Orange text?
Orange text?
When you click on a category on the right, links come up in the center in orange. There are also other things in orange, but those links are the most annoying.

I've got no problem with it, though you are right in that the orange text is a little annoying to read through. Overall, much better than the old site, which was a pain to navigate through to find anything.

I guess I can't compare, because I never visited the old site, but I don't find the orange text too bad. In fact, when I went to Amazon to get an idea what the old site looked like, I noticed their headings are a similar color of orange. Sounds like maybe a little friendly customer feedback might help with the category choices.
Overall, I like it. The layout is organized with navigation on the left, content in the middle, and miscellaneous stuff on the side, which has become pretty standard for a lot of sites. The colors are easy to read and don't clash. Again though, I never had the opportunity to bask in the glory of the old page.

Their customer service blows. Kimberly Elsner doesn't return phone calls or resolve issues. She must not ride.
Their website and catalogs speculate what they are going to have. They deal with a lot of closeouts and bulk buys from manufacturers.
I only deal with them when it's just such a smokin deal that even the LBS can't come close to the price.

Well, this was interesting. My links were showing up as black. So I went into Tools -> Internet Options and selected the Colors button. It was set to Window's Colors. When I turned that off the links now show as orange. However, when I set it back to Window's Colors, they stayed orange. Hmmm, interesting.

I liked the old site better, especially that the new site is only compatible with Internet Explorer, no help for us Mozilla/Netscape users.
I also do not like it how when browsing for an item, you see both the 'Regular' price and the 'Sale' price. It's gets confusing and cluttered to me.

What is wrong with the site in Mozilla?
I tried it using Mozilla and Firefox and everything looks fine to me.

It's different, big deal. The next time they change their site everybody will be saying they liked the "old" (current) site better.
it's slower than my ass without fiber.

Well, there was a problem, but it seemed to be fixed right after I posted it. :o

Didn't seem that bad to me. Sure, I've seen better, but trust me I've seen worse!

A much appreciated improvement. Whoever designed the old site needs to be banned from website design.

It's okay. It's just the list of links for each category forces me to slow down and well, read them. Quick, want shoes? You gotta spot it in the "Helmet/Shoes/Somethingoranother" link. I just don't like sites that make me slow down to find something.
My earlier complaint about Team Performance points & shipping was either fixed after or worked all along. You have to punch in your number in the name/address/blah/blah form. Again, makes you slow down to see it. But I got my points applied on a recent order, so it's all good.
I actually like the new website.
However, I have ordered 2 times from them and both times, they screwed up my order. The first time, I ordered a wheelset and they only sent 1 wheel. They sent me the other wheel, but it was a pain to get er done. The second time, they sent me the wrong size front derailleur and wrong color handlebar tape. A website doesn't do much good if they can't get orders right. I haven't ordered from them in about 2 years.
