i know im a newb but i am looking to upgrade my rst gila t6 on my 2006 trek 4300 to something a little better.... what things should i look for to make sure the fork will fit on to my bike? thanks

1 1/8 steerer tube. Threadless. Similar (Best - same) travel.

Look for similar travel to the one you've got already (I assume 80-100mm?), and if you are buying secondhand, make sure the steerer is long enough (the bit that goes through the frame from the top of the fork to the stem), these are usually cut down to fit a specific frame / rider setup.
Also check that it is compatible with the type of brakes you have; some fork are disc specific.
