Mavick rim, 3 ripples from minor bend. My wheel was pro maintained\ dished last month.
Mechanic (great guy) found my wheel dish to be over to the side. He 'corrected' it to be centre to the axle?
My bend has resulted in MOST of the rim to fall to the original dish!
>>Was my wheel originally prob correct, he misjudged???.<<
He MAY not have noticed the axle is 5 or 7 mm longer than normal, mines 140 or 142 compared to standard 135 mtb.
Looks to me the whole rim re alinged to the frame, the ripple is the spokes that wre tightened during maintenance ( reason for visit WAS loose spokes, the DISHING was done free, but NOT ASKED FOR OR CONSULTED PROIR.)
Does this seem a possibility? A single 'stuck between 2 rocks bend' does not cause the whole dish to shift 5mm in 3 curves travelling the entire circumference
of the rim.

P.S...I,m going to the shop very soon, type quick please!
Thanks.

I doubt that correcting the dish contributed to your problem.
"Dishing" a rim refers to centering the rim between the hub lock nuts. A little excess axel sticking out on either side doesn't affect the dishing gauge.
My guess is that you've had a bent rim for some time and have been trying to compensate for it being bent by adjusting the spoke tension. That might postphone the problem for a while, but eventually you are going to have to bite the bullet for a new rim.

If all the extra length is on the freehub side there's a chance that the spokes on that side are too vertical and you've compromised the wheel's structure. Your initial incorrect dishing resulted in a stronger (yet off-centre) wheel.
Why are you 5-7 mm wider than normal?

Ask Tom Ritchey, sorry, I'm upset. Tandem axle, some wierd race experiment to make stiff rear.

Jeff,
You described your fall and how your bike fell onto rocks.http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=56815
Now you're saying it's the mechanics fault????
Dude, get real, take responsibility for your own actions and realize that gear wears out. Heck you admit the wheel is old. Quit complaining and go buy a new wheel. And learn to take responsibility for your own actions.
Also, learn how to spell or type!

You'll need to move a spacer over to the non-drive side then have the wheel re-dished.

I'm back, he had it straight in 5 min.
Ever in Victoria, B.C, Canada. Need bike repairs, parts road to DH, Jeff @ Chainchainchain.
Super guy. Must be his name :D .
My dish is back over, my axle is 135mm spaced to frame interior droputs 140mm.
We are going to build me a wheel with Rynolite welded\ rivet seam later when this one wrecks.
He said the rims fine, go for it. Ride 'till it dies.
Have a great day! Thanks! :)

Glad he fixed it. When I read the first post I thought it was strange because I thought the rim was SUPPOSED to be to one side because the wheel is dished to one side to accomadate the cassette. So mounted the rim would be centered but by just looking at the wheel it would appear to be off, or something like that. Nevermind.

Yes, rims are. What I was asking was specific to ?developed racing Mod bikes or odd axle...
I'm gonna build wheels next. Have notime fer this.
