that they want to part for $5? I went to my lbs and they wanted $15. I thought it was ridiculous since these things come with STIs and from my understanding, when they build a bike, they end up throwing these in a drawer.

was it $15 for a bottle of 100?

oh.. are they not called derailleur cable stops? I'm referring to the mounts that you screw into your existing downtube lever braze-ons (for older bike w/o brazed on stops).

You've got the name right. The shop is in business to make money. Just because they have a drawer full of them doesn't mean they should give them away. If you check the prices on eBay, maybe $15 won't seem out of line.

I probably needed my morning tea. I figured you meant the things you crimp onto the ends to keep the cable from fraying.

In my head they're called downtube cable stops.
The polished aluminum ones, which are ultegra/DA quality are really nice, $15 is a fair price for them.
see, $20 online for a pair http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=A0035

if you get the cheaper plastic ones, now those I would only pay $5 for.

Try a different bike shop, if you can. I needed a pair, and had to go to three bike shops before someone knew what I was talking about. The third though, gave me a set for free.
