From what I used to hear, Campy was like the amazing Italian component that was a Ferrari while Shimano was like the American Corvette. Are they similar? Which do you prefer?

this topic has been killed in every forum and magazine, etc. but i have no problem summing them up for you:D
basically they are both excellent components, they shift extremely well, they both look great, etc.
campags shifters are slightly different than shimano shifters because they have a thumb shifter. campag also has lots of carbon on the record set whereas shimano has none (as far as i know).
the hoods on shimano are more "generous" as some have put it.
i personally prefer campag but thats only because of the thumb shifter. if shimano had a thumb shifter on a higher end grouppo i would put it on my next bike (right now i have sora)
basically i would just ride a bike with each and then decide what feels good to you.

I think you should use Campy for the front brake, left shifter, front derailleur, pedals, and wheelset. Use Shimano for rear brake, right shifter, rear derailleur, cranks, BB,chain, and cogs. Go with Chris King for your headset.

buy two bikes. 1 with campy, 1 with shimano. Then decide. That's what I did :)

im buying a dura ace rd and i was gonna buy a dura ace fd as well, but u guys think it would be better to go with a campy fd

While I like Campy, I currently ride Shimano and my bike has a D-A FD. Unless the rest of your bike is already Campy, I would just stick to Shimano. It will be less expensive and as far as the front derailleur goes, you probably won't notice any difference.
