Road Cycling - Serious Question About Cycling Shorts and Crotch

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whenever I bike, my crotch is never quite comfortable. It either goes to one side, or gets too low and then interferes with the saddle. I constantly adjust my shorts, but it just keeps coming. I would not call it saddle sores, but more of the issue of just plain comfort. I have good, Pearlizumi cycling shorts, but all there is is a pad. I guess part of my question is are there shorts that have a kind of middle region where your crotch is supposed to go and then stay? Also, does anyone else have this problem and what can I do to help? Thanks a lot.

Pretty much the penis and balls if you want to put it that way.
Your PIs may be too big. I have the 3D microsensor bibs and I'm rapidly getting to the stage where they will be relegated to just being worn on the trainer. I have the medium size, which is my size, but I think the excess padding in them is screwing up the whole fit. I'm always adjusting my bits and it ain't cool!

Make sure you buy the right size.
Pull them up all the way.

The shorts should be tight enough to keep it all in place, mine are.

as DieselDan said, just make sure yo pull them all the way up. when i first got my shorts i wasnt really pulling them all the way up and it resulted in exactly the same problem you are describing....now i basically pull them as high as they can go without giving myself a wedgie, adust my bits and pieces so they are commfy and so i dont sit on them, and then i head out.

I usualy wear XL in most shorts. I bought PIs in XL and have the same problem. TOO loose, causing the same problems you mention, driving me "nutts".

I have a problem with my package going numb? It's really starting to scare me, the shorts fit fine and it's just been happening recently.

Now I'm feeling a little insecure because I've never had any of these problems... I'm just as much a man as anyone else though!

Lets look at the guys who ride more than anyone else we know... the Pros.
Try the Leiphiemer (formery known as the Pettachi)
1. reach down and grab handful of junk.
2. pull it all up against your stomach
3. ride comfortably, even in the drops with you hips tilted forward
4. look stupid at coffe shop stop.
It may seem odd, but its the only way I can ride comfortably, before I started doing this, i used to end up getting all sorts of folds of skin pinched, smashed, you name it.

Goddamn! That's funny!

You may have a problem with your saddle height, fore/aft position, or angle.

Just like saddles, shorts can be specific to your anatomy. Unfortunately, again like saddles, the only way to determine what is best for you is to experiment with different types. Once you find the one, buy several. Good luck!

That's what I do and it works for me.
Have you tried bibs? I made the change from shorts to bibs last summer and I'm never going back (I now have 8 pairs :) ). They don't move around like shorts can and the comfort is wonderful. And no waistband or drawstring to restrict your breathing.

Let's face it. The male anatomy was NOT designed for biking.
Too bad you can't tuck it all in to a nature provided pouch!
What problems of similar nature do the ladies have except riding with a "smile." (For those that remember that classic thread!)
I mostly mountain bike but have done some road touring, i went thru the same problem with shorts.
I've found the baggy mountain bike shorts work best for me aside from the fact that im modest the baggys
just seem to have more/better cushion in the right areas.

I can't find it in a search. I think it was finally removed. It went on for a long time. Yes, it was most interesting and informative!
