ST. PETERSBURG — A man has been arrested in an unusual case of bicycle road rage.

Dale Arthur Single, 55, of 5141 70th St. N, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of criminal mischief.

Single is accused of using his hand to crack the windshield of a car trying to pass his bicycle at 34th Street and 53rd Avenue N on Sunday. He was arrested by Pinellas County sheriff's deputies after he wielded a handgun and a phony badge.

Deputies say Meluvdin Rahimic, 28, and Cristobal Santiago, 30, both of Pinellas Park, pulled up behind Single and honked at him around 2 p.m. on Sunday as he weaved his bicycle through traffic north on 34th Street. Single damaged Radimic's windshield with a hand slap and fled.

Officials say Rahimic called 911 and followed Single to the side of the road at 53rd Avenue, where Single revealed a pistol and "pointed it at the victims in a threatening manner." The suspect waved a badge at the men, who could also see a pair of handcuffs.

The men retreated and deputies arrested Single at 54th Avenue and 37th Street N. Deputies recovered the gun, handcuffs and a novelty badge in a fanny pack he was carrying.

Unfortunately no tests for intelligence, competence or even sanity are required for riding a bicycle. Sounds like this guy failed at least two out of three.

I smell a pile. The cyclist cracked a windshield with a handslap?? Bull. And, frankly, they must have been passing pretty close for him to be able to reach out and shatter that windshield with the ***** Slap O' Justice.

The story mentions in an offhand way how the car pulled up behind the cyclist and started honking at him.

So, ok, a car pulls up behind you, lays on the horn, then makes an illegal/unsafe pass, so close that you can hit their windshield? What would you do?

***** Slap O' Justice, of course.

Personally, I'd skip the cuffs and Mickey Mouse Club badge, though.

It probably would have been a lot less trouble for him if he had just unloaded the gun thru the window as the car went by.

I broke a windshield with an open-handed hit, after getting hit by a car.

I was on the hood at the time, though. Adrenaline is a pretty potent ingredient in situations like that.

I smell a pile. I agree. However, whatever the truth of the matter, this certainly shows that taking the law into your own hands can cause problems. Best to call the motorist in to the cops.

Breaking the windshield with a slap is a trick I need to learn though.

The broken windshield by hand slap is a tricky, you'd have to hit the right spot in the windshield. I know someone who had a windshield get shattered by an folded, empty cardboard box while driving on the highway. It looked like a body had landed in the middle of the windshield.

I didn't even manage to dent the hood of the SUV that was trying to mow down a cyclist in CM. FAIL

I need to learn teh Slap O' Justice, yo.
