I bit the bullet and ordered a R700 compact crank, 50/34. I have an Ultegra 6600 FD, which I believe has a 15t capacity. Will the 6600 be able to handle the 16t difference on the compact?

I'm using barcons, so it's friction in the front.

The one tooth excess should be a non-issue even with indexing but particularly with friction shifting.

I have several Shimano road triples with their triple front derailleurs. These are rated to handle a 52/X/30 chainring spread or 22T. I routinely replace the 30T granny with a 26T so I have a 26 tooth range and they work fine with STI brifters.

I replaced my 53/39 with a R700 compact using a DuraAce front der. No problem, in fact that is one of the sales pitches of the R700, no need to change the front der. Mine shifts real quick and smooth with no noise!!
