Anyone know where I can pickup a Sugino 75 crank set for a good price?
What length of BB spindle should I use (for a track hubset) to get the right chainline?

109mm is the suggested spindle length. i just went ahead and bought the sugino 75 bb from businesscycles to make sure of a good match

I'm looking to get the Sugino 75 crankset. I've got a 113 Shimano UN 52 or 52 bb installed, as the friend at the LBS said the 109 with my shimano 600 crankset was too tight. If I get the Sugino 75 crankset, will it be too wide using my 113 and screw up the chainline? Is it a tried and true fact that the 109 will always be the correct length for this crankset?

If it is any help, the frame is a strange old Hoffy from the 50's, so perhaps the chainstays are wider or don't taper as quickly as they do on more modern frames, I do not know.

But that has nothing to do with your chainline, which will end up being ~2mm outboard of where it should be.

AEBike has the Sugino 75 WITH a 49T ring for $179.99 but only 170mm.

I got the 165mm when they were available months ago. And you need a 108-109mm to get good to perfect chainline.

Good to know. So, I am curious, as this crankset is different than the 600 one I have presently, if I put the 109 on, I'll be sure the chainline is perfect, but how about the fit with respect to the chainstays? Should I be confident that it will all fit and not scrape?

Lastly, just to make sure I'm on the right tip, the 75 does fit the standard Shimano UN 5X square taper bb, right? I guess I'm going to the LBS to buy a 109 now. Should the Shimano UN be an OK choice? This is probably all over the boards, but while we are on the subject...

Not sure to be honest. I just know that I recently bought a set of new version black Sugino 75s from my LBS. Was going to get a UN series BB, but the guy told me that both Sugino (directly) and Phil Wood confirmed that 75s were campy/ISO taper. The general consensus WAS that they were JIS, which would make sense. But if Sugino is saying that they are ISO, well, they don't have a reason to lie.

Phil went back on that, apparently is WAS confirmed by Phil that they were campy. However, Phil did say that the old spindles they were selling were no exactly JIS, but made to fit the cranks.

i once bought a shimano BB and the taper didn't match up with the sugino75 crank, it would only slide about 1/2 way on the spindle.

I've been running my SG75's on a UN53 bottom bracket with for over a year with no problems.

keirnculture.com had a few but i think he sold them. i think there are a few chain rings left though.

Polls bunk. Mostly lists on JIS taper, even for the phil wood. Furthermore the poll is for what you would trust to be the best BB for street conditions. I would tend to believe that when the company says they make their cranks for ISO taper, then their cranks are ISO taper. Also, Phil is all about precision and getting things right and if they would go through the trouble to say they now recco ISO for sugino, well...

Not to say you can't do whatever the hell you want (and it will probably work), the fact remains that Sugino 75s are ISO.

If by 'a little off', you mean fractions of a mm? I got a "perfect" chainline with both a Campy sealed BB and a S75 BB, never tossed a chain, never prematurely wore the rest of the drivetrain, minimal noise (mostly from me not doing proper chain maintanence like I should). The reason I sent Sugino that email and created the above-linked thread was because I took the advice of the then-common consensus of this forum and put a Shimano UN53 BB on with the Sugino 75 and DID run into problems (noise, clicking sounds, imperfect chainline) and subsequently got a nice lecture from one of the most respected mechanics in town.

or Miche...they have a 110mm that is adjustable....I built a bike for a friend using this setup....pretty damn straight chainline.
