Just wondering if anyone did the 63 miler TDP this last Sun and you happen to have total climb numbers.

Thanks!

Well, I was GONNA, but then I wimped out, and slept in. Sorry I can't help! You could try inputting it into "Map My Ride".

mapmyride is terrible for cumulative elevation gain. Klimb.org is much better (for the Bay Area).

A friend and I did the 63 miler last Saturday. Kings Mtn was the majority of the climb and it was my first time going up it. I'm proud to say that I did not stop once during that climb. My knees are paying for it now though.

I haven't finished mapping the route into bikely but all thats left is the last 16 miles of mostly flat miles to the finish after all the climbs have been done. I show 4464ft of climbing in 47 miles. I'll update you when I finish mapping out the route.

I passed few people walking up Kings Mountain. I never quite understood why. To me it makes more sense to stop rest then hope back on. I started the climb around 10:40am so missed majority of the people. I was in white UCI kit on red bike.

I went up Kings Mtn early in an effort to beat the anticipated crowds. Good decision - the crowd started showing-up around 9:15.

I went later and managed to avoid the crowds. One guy in, I think, Stanford kit climbed past me (effortlessly) twice, each time going back down to a friend of his whom I'd passed earlier. I don't think he realized he was taunting me, doing that!

mtnwalker - look forward to the stats when you get it all together...

yeah.. first time I went up kings mtn too. heck, it's the first time i've climbed that much period!

i'm proudly wearing my t-shirt!

btw, i did input it into mapmyride.com and it came out at like 3572 or something which seemed *really* off to me since kings was 1500 and crystal twice seems like it'd be approx another 1k. i can tell you that the rest of route was not flat. that's why i came here to ask if someone has more accurate data for me to tout to myself.

Ok, finished the bikely route. Unfortunately I can't save it because I'm at work.
Anyways, 63.2 miles and 5423 ft of climbing.

I'll have to say that this ride was more difficult compared to, lets say, the wine century. I noticed that the organization was ill prepared for the 63 mile riders. All the rest stops were empty by the time we got to them on the way back. All they had was water and some suckers. And when we got to the finish around 2:30pm it looked deserted except for a few riders milling around and most of the sponsors boots were gone. Oh well, it was a good ride nonetheless.

My Garmin shut off on my descending 35. That shouldn't have mattered at all because Kings was already done, but for whatever reason, I only have about 2000ft. of climbing :-/

Oh yeah. I feel studly. Uh.. not. I did it but didn't do it very gracefully. But, hey, I crossed the line.

Yeah. It wasn't exactly the most organized of rides but I didn't really expect much. I mean come on...

1. It's to support the parks. They're not rolling in dough right now and probably trying to make every cent count.
2. They're not cyclists. They're park rangers or something. Maybe they're hikers or *maybe* they're mtn bikers. I didn't really expect the ride to be run like the Tierra Bella or Wine Country.

Thanks much Mtnwalker. This is my record climb.

I'm not complaining, too much.;)
I understand that this was the first time they've ever had to support a 63 mile ride. But I don't think they realized just how long it can take for some riders to finish that kind of ride. A lady at the booth was surprised to hear that some riders were still climbing Kings Mtn at 1 pm.

Maybe they got a lot more riders than they were expecting this year. I did notice more advertising for this event that in the past.

In past years, some local bicycle clubs boycotted this event because it supposedly supports San Mateo County Parks at the same time that these parks explicitly ban bicycles from almost all park lands. Maybe they have made their peace with bicyclists by adding some bicycle programs.

I'm curious - did any of the routes actually pass through any San Mateo County Parks (except for the starting point and the Sawyer Camp Trail)? Did the route pass through Huddart County Park on Kings Mountain Road?

Mtnwalker - Thanks you made me feel better with the "I understand that this was the first time they've ever had to support a 63 mile ride. But I don't think they realized just how long it can take for some riders to finish that kind of ride. A lady at the booth was surprised to hear that some riders were still climbing Kings Mtn at 1 pm." I was done around 2:30 -3pm like you. And when I got to the grounds, I could see tumbleweeds and only the t-shirt booth :)

Johnny99 - Nope. We didn't really go thru any parks at least that I'm aware of. We just went past the signs to the parks from what I saw but then I'm not familiar with the official boundaries of the parks, either. Yeah. I'd read that some cyclist orgs were boycotting in the past. Not sure bout this year but I'm happy just to support the park system.
