Dr Alexis Shelekov passed away yesterday. He suffered a heart attack while on vacation, clipped in and riding.
Dr. Shelekov was one of the original founders of Tesas Back Institute before forming his own practice. I've had three back surgeries in my lifetime, the second one by Dr. Shelekov. He's one of the reasons I'm able to ride at all.
Godspeed Doc, pedal on.

My wife has seen most of the "top" spine surgeons in DFW. In our minds he was truly a cut above (no pun intended) the rest.

If you gotta go, that's the way to do it....doing something that you love.
Sweet tailwinds Doc.
Ride on.
Indeed, I can't think of a better way to go. Well, being on a peaceful river, and feeling the sudden need for a nap in one of my canoes, just might be better. A bit less impact. Rest in peace, Doc.

I worked with Dr. Shelokov many years ago. He was fairly overweight and just starting to run and cycle. We talked alot about bikes and cycling, over time he turned into a really strong athlete. WHen I heard about him passing, it made me very sad. He was a great cyclist, an amazing surgeon, a wonderful family man. He will be missed.
