So, I have become a pretty regular flosser. My weapon of choice is a Glide floss pick, or the like, as I tend to shred regular floss due to tight teeth. If you have not tried Glide or any of the slick comfort flosses, try it.

Now for my question. When you are flossing and dislodge something from your interdental spaces, do you swallow it without thinking, chew it and then swallow it while trying to figure out what it was, spit it out to see what it is and then decide whether to swallow it or throw it away, or spit it out it out and throw it away?

I chew then swallow and try to figure out what it was.

Speaketh you brave flossers of foo and tell of your wonderous adventures and epic discoveries.

Rinse and spit out. Sometimes I even re-brush.

Boring is good!

I usually see how far I can spit it.

I haven't flossed in ages, though, and the dentist always says she can tell I am one of her best flossers. Hahaha!!

I like to eat Slim Jim's and then floss a few hours later. It's delicious all over again.

Via flossing or direct from the package?

My favourite floss is Oral-B Satin Floss. It's some kind of plastic or ??? rather than the conventional kind which shred between my tight as hell teeth. That being said, I'm not compliant about flossing, I don't do it nearly enough so:

I hadn't gone to the dentist in at least 2 years because I didn't have insurance, so when I finally went I was dreading what they would find.

They found three cavities, one that worked it's way under an amalgam filling, nothing too major, got 'em fixed blah blah. Anyway, the dentist told me if I had flossed regularly I could have avoided all three of those cavities, they were between my teeth type of cavities.

Moral of the story: Floss and avoid getting expensive cavities!

The dentist is serious. She even tells me, "you should give your wife pointers" since my wife has flossed so hard all her life she had to have her gum line reconstructed.

Unless you are there, I don't know how your own sarcasm dector can be working correctly.

Pffft. I get cavities on purpose just so I can get my teeth drilled on. I'm that hardcore.

My dentist has a sign over her chair that reads "You do not have to floss all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep.":D

I drill my own teeth with my Makita and a dull, rusty bit.

You mean untreated cavities?

I can't count the number of cavities I've EVER had, I have also had three root canals. One was on a front tooth that decided to start abcessing for no reason, it had no disease previous to that. I was amazed all I had was three relatively minor cavities after years of no dentistry, i guess the one under the filling was a little worse than the others but it's fixed now and not causing me problems. :thumb:

My dentist said even if I cant seem to floss every day, do it a couple/three times a week to start.

I use the wide floss, find that is easier than the ultra fine - too thin.

A recent revelation - floss, then brush. Not the old brush then floss mantra.

2 things I like better with flossing:

first - it loosens up crap between the teeth first so the brush can get it out.
second - kinda gross - but think about how long the food has been in between your teeth and how it could smell. Nor convinced - try flossing first and then smell your breath. Why would you want to release that into a freshly brushed mouth?

Mah stomach just flopped over.

Things lodged in dental crevices cease to be a food element, therefore - a spit is required as it haz become hazardous material.

No. To get into the secret club costs "tree-fitty". Then hours of training in the art of Couchology. It's very expensive but I think you will make an outstanding addition to my cult.

I don't floss, my teeth are too packed.

instead I have this pin tip tweezer that I just scrape my teeth with occasionally, since dental scrapers aren't available to the public.

since my teeth are so packed, it's very hard to get something lodged between. usually it's a tendon from beef or chicken.
I usually just swallow it.

Tom Cruise isn't allowed in our cult. We invited him but I don't like competition when it comes to couch jumping.

Glide floss, taste, brush, then irrigate. Anyone who has never used an irrigator should try one, it's an amazing load of debris that goes down the drain the first couple weeks until your gums adapt.

yes

I floss> mouthwash> brush in that order and while it may be un-goat like, no re-chewing of any cud here.

when i was a wee kid goat I used to keep some Slim Jim in my cheek while playing ball and spit it out like tobacco juice a la Sparky Lyle.

I brush morning and evening and use floss pics after most meals. I have an irriagator, need to dig it back out, as it did an excellent job of keeping my gums healthy and happy.

I floss and rinse my mouth with mouthwash EVERY TIME I dislodge something, how do you know how long that little bit of food was lodged between your teeth!? It may be a bacterial ghotto thats been festering for days by the time you get it out from in between your teeth! :twitchy:
