This morning on my commute to work, I came to an intersection and next thing I knew there were 8 or 9 of us... a traffic jam of bike commuters.
A shaved leg roadie, a middle aged woman on a hybrid, a mom with a baby seat on the back rack, a few guys on MTBs...diverse backgrounds sharing one common mode of transportation on the streets of Brooklyn.
All of us chatting, laughing, looking forward to the day we would outnumber the cars... someday soon!
The light turned green and we all went our own way... but, for a moment, if felt so good to ride in such an eclectic *pack*...

I saw a fine fine young lady riding a red cervino going the other way on my commute today.

Heh that's my old route. I go down 5th avenue from 49th street all the way to bergen then go down bergen pass 3rd avenue to smith and take a right all the way down to the brooklyn bridge.
The traffic jams are usually at 3rd or 4th avenue when a whole bunch of us would get jammed into the lights, most I've seen was like 5 bikers, not as many as you saw.

I remember something like that in Brisbane on a Sunday evening in 1998, just after the old Brisbane Hills Classic. Hundreds of us came down from Mt Coot-tha and descended on the city (quite literally) and basically took the place over. Of course, nobody was commuting at that time. :(

That's like those crazy critical mass traffic jams the last friday of every month.
