I see a lot of threads in here reguarding clyde specific wheels and tires. I have a 100% stock Felt Z70. I have put about 500 miles on it this year. What should I be watching out for in regards to wheel issues, I am 5'11" , 255lbs. Are there a signs I should be looking for that a problem might be in my future?

I have some Weinmann Deep V Dp18 Wheels on my Single Speed that i built and they have served me well.

but if any of you know any tell tale signs that might come about before any wheel problems arise I would appreciate it.

I have Felt supplied 32 spoke Mavic CXP 22 rims with Felt hubs. Mine have been very strong and reliable. I had them tensioned at 200 miles and the stayed true for more than 2000 miles before needing any attention. These wheels are much better than average and you would need to get a 36 hole rim to find a stronger wheel, IMO.
Just check to see that the spokes are tensioned and that the rims are free of cracks or any other damage.
I'm 230 lbs when I started using these wheels. I ride on very poor pavement in Chicago.

+1 on getting them tensioned @ after a few hundred miles -- even if they appear true. A bit of preventive maintenance will go a long way in minimizing the possibility of broken spokes. BTW, nice ride.....

Not a Clyde specific wheel thing, but watch for brake surface wear on the rim. Not sure how much wet weather you ride in there in FLA, but up here in the PNW a rim can wear out right quick from the sand/cinder on wet roads and all our hills.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that.

Looking at the pix, you might wanna put some tension on that slack chain, too.

Yeah, that's an older pic, I got a half-link in there now, I actually used that bike in a local rat race in town, it really sucked on the one hill in the race. But out of like 45 people only 2 or 3 brought road bikes everyone esle was on single speed. So I felt obligated to bring mine.
You will start to hear rubbing on the brake pads first and then if it gets worse you can feel it. I blew my rear wheel twice in one month 5' 11" 255lbs, Specialized Roubaix, now I am having a 36 spoke deep V velocity wheel made for me. It should be ready tommorrow. I can't wait. ECB1

Nice, Post some pics when you get that new wheel put on, I'd love to see it!
It seems like we are the same size, I might start looking for a 36 spoke wheel as well. What wheels come stock on your Roubaix?

The Mavic CXP 22 have a groove on the braking surface that is a wear indicator. If the groove starts fading due to brake wear, It's time for a new rim.
