Am I missing something w/ this thing? Is there no way to not get liquid to splash out of this thing before having to drink half of it? The one I got came w/ the yellow spongy thingy, but also came w/ a black lid....but the lid is not really a lid....it has a spongy top w/ slits in it. I guess so that you can refill quickly or put a straw in it. When I begin my rides, and I hit the littliest bump, gatorade comes flying out. My bike is a sugary mess when I am done. What the hell? I don't dare put the yellow sponge as top if the black lid won't hold Sh** in it. I tried putting the yellow spone inside w/ the black lid on and that didn't do anything. Has anyone had this same problem and solved it somehow? Might have to cut out a plastic circle from a coolwhip top and put under the black spone lid........

I have the same bottle and have never encountered any problems with mine. I have the sponger in with the black top on. It works great

I had the same issue. For my next race I'm just going to use zip ties to attach a bottle cage to the aero bars and use a standard bottle.

I have used it for a couple years now (the old one which only has the sponge) but I use it only for races. First off I hold the sponge inside with 2 rubber bands, secondly I never fill it all the way, and i always just use water. It does splash a bit but with the sponge inside it keeps it from splashing too much. I just deal with it since my bike is wet anyway during a race after swimming.

Yeah, I can see only water being there not being a problem, and that maybe the route i go w/ since I'll also have a rear seat post bottle holder that I can put gatorade in. Was doing it the other way around. And I don't fill it up all the way either but for some reason it was going all over the place. Could have been that my ride starts out on a very bumpy bike path. I did cut out a plastic circle from a cool whip top to place under the black slitted top....that seems like it'll do the job too. Thanks for the feedback!

I had the same issue. I took off the black lid and put the sponge throught the black top (without the black lid). The sponge stayed half inside and half outside the bottle and the liquid didn't splash... But after having gatorade splashed all over my bike, I just fill the bottle with water now.

Cool, keeping the sponge as far in as possible really minimizes the splashing, and the good thing is you can refill it easily while riding, that cool whip top probably prevents you from doing that...

yeah, the cool whip idea definitely prevents me from refilling. I'll try the sponge w/ the black lid. I did that before but w/ the sponge all the way in the bottle.....maybe using it as a "plug" will help.

ya since I have the old one I didn't get the handy dandy black cap so I use rubber bands to hold it as a plug..

That said I have terrible balance and a really hard time trying to ride with no hands, so re-filling the bottle is always an adventure.

Gee - I thought I was the only one that got covered in Gatorade!! The green G2 isn't a problem but the red, fruit punch turns me and the bike into a sticky mess. I like the cool whip idea...will try that this weekend.

I would recommend the Jetstream aero bottle. It completely eliminates the problem of splashing. It uses a really neat (and quite large) sponge in a more efficient manner than the Profile aerodrink does.

Also, it has a lower profile, which means that (a) it's more aero (maybe), (b) you can use the Jetstream bottle even if your aerobars are relatively close to your front wheel (which is an issue for many shorter folks).

I've had the same problem. I fixed it by cutting a 2inch thick sponge to fit into the opening. Cut it slightly large so it's a snug fit.Thread a piece of string through the middle of the sponge and tie a knot in it so it can't pull out. Tie the other end of the string to the base of the drink tube, leave an inch or so of slack so that when you pull the sponge out it hangs beside the bottle. When you want to fill the bottle, pull out the sponge, let it hang, fill the bottle , reinsert the sponge. No fuss, no bother, no bike and rider covered in sticky whatever. Has worked well for me for 6 Ironmans. Hope this helps.
