King Cobras make nests. Generally snakes show little or no parental care, but a pair of King Cobras will cooperate to find a suitable nesting spot. Nests are built usually in the month of April. Despite having no limbs, the female constructs her nest of dead leaves by scooping them up with her body. Females then lay approximately 20-50 eggs, two months after mating, with an incubation period ranging from 60 to 80 days. The female will then remain on the nest until just before the eggs hatch, at which point instinct will cause the mother to leave the young so as to prevent her from eating them! The male king cobra is similarly unique in that he stays to guard the nesting area, until the young hatch, patrolling a large area around the nest for threats. Such complex nesting and rearing behavior is unique among snakes. No other snake shows any parental care.

This is true.
I was raised by vipers and they didn't care if I stayed out all night.

King cobras rock. They're spooky as hell, but they definitely rock.

I've seen a few American carpet snakes.
The King Cobra's venom is primarily neurotoxic and thus attacks the victim's central nervous system and quickly induces severe pain, blurred vision, vertigo, drowsiness, and paralysis. In one to two minutes, cardiovascular collapse occurs, and the victim falls into a coma. Death soon follows due to respiratory failure.
Although its venom is not the most toxic one, a King Cobra's size enables it to inject larger quantities of venom than most other species. On a single bite, it injects as much as 6 to 7 ml of venom. The large amount of venom in a single bite allows the King Cobra to kill faster and to kill larger animals than other serpents. The King Cobra can kill up to five times faster than the black mamba, so it just takes a few minutes to kill a human, and it can even kill an Asian Elephant within three hours if the larger animal is bitten in a vulnerable area such as the trunk.

Makes me want to go get my pics at my Mom's house - especially the ones where I'm holding 10-1/2' Caesar (south american boa)

Snakes are awesome- I love 'em all, but milk snakes (of all kinds, but especially the Mexican) are among my favorites. Just don't confuse 'em with corals:eek:

Funny....these rhymes seem easier than one I learned from my grandfather as a kid. In fact, I barely remember it.
Something like:
Red, black, yellow is kind to a fellow
Black, yellow, red and the fellow is dead
I could never remember it...so I stayed away from both. It all started when my grandfather found me trying to catch a coral snake when I was about 4 because I thought it was so pretty.

No, although if it had not been for the fact that I couldn't handle the organic chemistry smells, I probably would have become a vet.
