I have finally got the ok from my wife on a new bike. Nowwww, I'm not sure what to do. Here's my scenario, I have a 1986 Schwinn Letour, over the last 5 yrs, I've used ebay to upgrade the wheels, shifters, front & rear derail's to 105's.
I sat on a '03 Trek 2200 the other day at the only LBS - how sweet ($1600). There's only this one bike shop within close driving distance, & he has this Trek & a $589 Specialized in store.
I'm thinking I'd much rather stay with my current 105 setup than jump to a new $5-600 bike outfitted with Sora. Guess I'm looking for advice from some of the members who've had the opportunity to ride bikes in all different price ranges when they were upgrading from an older bike.
I'm told it's my "last bike", so while I don't want to break the bank, I want something decent, guessing I might have to look in the $1 grand price range? Maybe the best thing might be to drive to Colorado Springs (closest place with several shops) & spend the whole day testing bikes, & pick one out before I leave.
We were watching the TDF the other night & she said, "hey, maybe we get your new bike, we'll be there next year". Made me realize how much schooling we had to do on bike racing.
