My Polar HRM is no longer getting a signal between the strap and the watch (unless I put them real close together, and even then it's in and out). before I buy a new watch battery, I was wondering if there's a way to tell whether the weak battery is the watch or the strap?
My Polar watch has a battery display (flashes when the watch battery is low). Your strap battery will die well before your watch battery.

Buy and replace the $1 battery and see. It's the most likely cause and it's cheap and easy.

Tried that. Was on hold for 40+ minutes before giving up and doing other things.

Maybe on the newer ones but I doubt it on mine. There's no battery indicator and the strap is supposed to last 2500 hours, while the watch battery should last about half that. But I'm onto my second watch battery already so not sure.
