Hi everyone,

I stumbled upon this Miyata 710 road bike on craigslist, the seller is asking for $475. Is this a fair price??
Thanks

No, a fair price is more like $250. Given condition is excellent, maybe $275.

$250 is quite a lowball. That's a serious business bike. If you could get it for $350, it would be a good buy.

Well, as my avatar would indicate, I'm a bit of a fanboy.

I'll take it off your hands for cheap in pre-fixed-up condition, if you want.

$350 is Shimano 600/Ultegra territory
$350 is 912/914 territory
$350 is NOT Suntour Cyclone territory.

A 710 in very good condition and Cyclone would be under $300 based on an '86 Pro w/ full Suntour Sprint I sold for $400.

So I should make an offer between $300-$350?

Lets say you offer $300 on a bike with an asking price of $475. The owner will counter with a number half way....say $375 which in my opinion is still too high.

Rather than offer why talk to the owner, maybe you can feel him out on the price without actualy making an offer.

Say something like, "I know Miyatas are nice bikes and your 710 is excellent condition, but $475 seems a little high."

Hi,

I wonder what was original wheelset on 1986 Miyata 710 (Seven Ten)? It has Suntour cyclone components and dia-compe breaks. UKAI, ARAYA? Size is odd too (for that vintage), 700c I guess? any ideas? I expect all original should be worth around $350.

All original 710 is not worth $350 around here. But if you can get $350 for it, great!

There are Miyata catalogs on line you can look up.

The 86 710 was originally sold with Ukai annodized rims and Miyata's own brand 'Grand Sport' 700x25c tires.

For what it is worth, two weeks ago I bought a 1985 710 in good, not pristine, shape with 100 percent original componentry (excluding tires) for $120 (asking price) off of CL in the Boston area (usually a region that trends to bing more expensive). It appears I was just lucky though - I defer to other members of the forum as to what would be worth paying.

The Miyat 710 is a very nice mid-range bicycle. This particular one appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition, though one has to wonder why the wheels were replaced. And I realize that some markets are very expensive, but I still can't fathom something asking more than original price for a 23 old, mass produced bicycle.

My 2 cents is in the $250 to , maximum, $300.

I just sold a 1984 9-12, All shimano 600, 700c wheels, olympic silver, in great shape , for $320. That was on the central coast of california, Where prices tends to be a little high. It took three weeks on craigslist. Miyatas are nice bikes, but I think the price is to high for a 7-10, I'd offer $250 If " you gotta have it", It's the lower end simi pro bike.

noObzilla,
I have a 710 just like it in fantastic shape for its age...I plan on fixing to look practically like the one in the pic.

I have $250.00 in it including shipping from ebay. Nice bike. I like Miyata's and their quality. I can see spending a good bit on a nice Miyata as long it is in excellent shape and an upper model. That seven ten has the looks but $475...I'd keep looking unless like spg says...and "you just gotta have it". I am being patient and waiting for a really pristine
nine 16 and then a Miyata 1000 touring bike. I will be done with Miyata's then. Timing is everything!

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I had a question regarding my 710. I was thinking of having it repainted, and while I was at it, wanted to upgrade my fork. The current one I believe is manganese. Could anyone recommend a good steel fork? Thanks.

Something with 'Tange' stamped into the metal would be a nice option....
