Mile 86 of a gorgeous century today, and my right chainstay broke clean through. It broke just before it and the seatstay meet at the dropout (my camera is currently out of the state). I am considering my options.
It is steel, so I know it's possible for it to be welded. However, this isn't a nice frame (in fact, it's kind of a ***). It's just the only one I have at the moment. I was in the process of saving up for a CAAD9 or something in that range, so I have a little cash, but would rather spend as little of it as possible. It's going to take me long enough to save for a nice bike already.
Would it be worth having this frame welded? Would the resulting weld be dependable? How much, approximately, should this cost? Who should I ask to do it? How about a body shop? It would be nice if this were relatively cheap and worthwhile, as I'd really not have to go out and buy another garbage bike just to get me through.
