I am helping a friend spec out a new bicycle build-up. Shimano XT components have been specified with the exception of the rim brakes. The LBS suggested using Magura HS 33 rim brakes instead of XT brakes. I know the Magura's are hydraulic. The bike is going to be used for daily commuting and touring, i.e. a car-free cyclist who will be using the bicycle in all weather conditions.
Are the Magura HS 33's and the XT brakes comparable quality-wise? What are the pros and cons of going with the Magura's over the XT's? Thank you in advance for your input.
