Hi,

I'm going to be in France for a week during the TDF this summer, and I'm trying to figure out, how I could get english comentary on a radio, TV, or some other media device while I'm on the road side waiting for the riders

Any ideas?

First Of all welcome to the Bikeforum, I think you can get an english commentary of the TDF with the OLN network, but I beleive they will be aired only during the actual race itself

You might also try BBC Radio 5. We keep seeing adverts here for them on BBC1 and 2 TV. They carry sports exclusively (I think), and may carry the TdF.

The race is six months away - you could always learn French. ;)

Cheers...Gary

P.S. Which week?

I'm not sure exactly which week I want to be there; I need to review the schedule and map to figure out what stages I want to catch. Most likely the mountain stages and/or a time trial stage; So the 7th-15th stages are probibly my best bet.

BTW: Can I actually recieve those BBS stations via TV or Radio while in France? Keep in mind I'm going to be in the middle of nowhere most likely.

Cheers!

JM -

BBC Radio 5 may be on shortwave or some other form you could receive them. Here is a place to start looking: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

I know that Phil Liggett does broadcast his commentary somewhere, I just don't know where. Possibly TV only.

We will be in Vaison la Romaine to look for houses (and just coincidentally, will see the end of the stage on Ventoux, and the start two days later from VlR ;) )

Cheers...Gary

as gmason says, BBC radio 5 live usually broadcasts live at some point in the day whilst the tour is on. that might be one option if you can buy a small radio whilst there or take one with you.

the other option is look out for people's camper vans with the tiny satellite dishes on the roof of the van by the road side. there's a good chance they're watching eurosport in the van whilst waiting for the race to arrive. sometimes the peeps might bring the tv set into the doorway of the van so others can watch.

eurosport broadcast live coverage in english and on the long mountain stages show the whole stage from start to finish.........which is great if you can stand watching tv for 8 hours in one go!
